Description of mountain:
Pokljuka Gorge, also Ribščice Gorge, is a 1.5 km long gorge at the eastern foot of the Pokljuka Alpine plateau above the valley of the river Radovna in TNP. The gorge is dry, but in the lower part the Ribščica stream (a tributary of Radovna) appears, which drained water from the Pokljuka glacier during the last ice age and carved limestone rocks up to 50 m deep. In the central part of the gorge there are numerous fossil remains, natural bridges, and in the narrowest, impassable part, 800 m of tourist paths were laid as early as 1930 (woden bridges in the partisan passage, called the Galleries of King Andrew). Other attractions of the gorge include the Pokljuka Hole (a rock cavity with two entrances and three natural windows, where Primož Trubar is said to have hidden during his flight to Germany; a path leads through the hole to the Old Pokljuka) and the Stranska Gorge, which is filled by a 22 m high waterfall during the rainy season.
