History. The first hut on Zelenica was built in 1929 by five private owners, but they refused to rent it to the Tržiška branch of the SPD; the hut was burnt down during the occupation. In 1950, workers from the militia school, which was then located in Begunje, started building a mountain lodge; the unfinished lodge was rented out to the Tržič PD on 15 December 1952, which put it into emergency use and opened it the following year. On 24 July 1962, PD Tržič took permanent possession of the building by means of a contract between the RSNZ, which owned the building, and the PZS. After the takeover, the outpost was fully completed and equipped and was inaugurated on 19 January 1966. In 1992, an extension was added to the entrance, thus providing a teaching rom. In December 1999, the building completely burnt down. It was rebuilt and reopened in 2011.
The hostel also has a Mountain Learning Centre Zelenica, run by Stanko Koblar, 040 627 808.
Views. From the nearby top station of the chairlift, the view opens onto the rocky plateau between the Ljubeljščica ridge in the north and the Begunjščica walls on the south side of the plateau, along which the chairlift is routed, and further towards the Šentan valley, above which the western part of the Košuta rises; the entire southern side is filled by the walls of Begunjščice; on the western side is the undulating valley Zelenica, above which rises Srednji vrh, which obscures the view towards Stol; to the north-west is Vrtača; the northern side is flanked by the ridge of Na Možeh. If you climb to the top of the ridge, you will have a beautiful view of the hilly Carinthian landscape towards the Drava.
