Matkov kot - Mrzla gora (via Matkova krnica in Krnička gora)

Access to the starting point:
We drive to Luce (to get here from Mozirje or via Kranjski rak) and on to the Logar Valley. Shortly after the village of Solčava, you will reach a crossroads where the road to the Logarska dolina branches off to the left. Turn right towards Pavliče sedlo and then left over the small bridge towards Matkove kot, where you leave your vehicle in the parking lot.

Path description:
From the parking lot in Matkov Kot we start on the marked trail to Mrzla Gora. After a 20-minute walk, you will reach a hunting lodge, where the marked trail turns right off the gravel into the forest. When the trail crosses the forest road (a gate), turn right along it and left at the first turn-off. Continue along the road and when it ends, turn straight up (mozhici) and after about 50 m you will find a path leading to the left over the steep slopes and ravines of Matkova kopa towards Matkova cirque. After a longer traverse and after passing under an overhanging wall into a larger, smoother gully that drops from under the top of Matka kopa (water), cross it and continue up, first on the left and then on the right, almost to the characteristic red part of the gully. Before it, cross the gully to the left (mogic) and continue along the partially exposed ledges and between the pines towards Matka's cirque.
From the fallen shepherd's tent, continue up towards Krnička Gora (going straight up through the pines to the scree). Turn right below the cliffs towards the saddle above Matkovo cirque. At the saddle we have two options. Either descend to the other side along the crumbly gully and join the "trail" leading from Belska Koča or continue up the ridge. Of course, the ridge is the better option.
At the beginning, a steep section of grade II blocks our way, which we climb behind a large flake and right in front of the tower and then up along the pine trees to the ridge. We continue along a beautiful but unfortunately short ridge. The rock on the ridge is very compact. Difficulties can be avoided to the right. Before the summit, join the "path" from Belska Koča in a crumbly gully.
It took us 3 hours or more to reach the top of Krnička Gora, depending on our speed of ascent. Krnička gora is not very popular, so let's take some time to rest and enjoy the unusual view of the surrounding peaks, cirque, ravines and valleys.
Krnička gora, the less visited neighbour of Mrzla gora, certainly deserves its reputation as one of the KSA's most beautiful pathless peaks. Only on the ridges of Kočna will we get a similar feeling.
From the top of Krnička Gora, continue along the ridge towards Mrzla Gora. The ridge is partly overgrown, but there are passages. If you don't like pine trees, you can go down to the right and cross the part of the ridge below the pine trees. Return to the ridge in the stubble, where there is a passage to Latvica. From the stub there are again two options. Either left under the ridge on the crumbly scree, or straight along the exposed ridge past the window, which is of course the better option. Beyond the window, the ridge soon straightens up towards Mrzla Gora. Leave it here by a steel cable to the left and continue along the craggy ledges and smooth slabs to a small ridge to the left. From here there are several options up to the main ridge of Frost Mountain. The easiest, but still crumbly, option is slightly downhill to the left and a crumbly traverse to the next ridge with a "mane" of pine trees. Up the pine ridge, across the steel cable to the right and up into a jagged gully which climbs gently to the left. When it ends, cross a short steel cable and go straight up a steep scree slope to the main ridge. After this, it is just a "walk" to the top of Mrzla Gora. From Krnička gora to the top of Mrzla gora is at least one hour of very difficult, steep, crumbly, potholed descent. If you are careful, of course, the time increases even more.
The approach over Matko's cirque and Krnička mountain is, in my opinion, the most beautiful pathless approach to Mrzla Gora. Following the mysterious lower shepherd's path, we are greeted by Matka's cirque and a little pearl between the ridges to the top of Krnička Gora. From Krnička Gora onwards, it is very challenging climbing along the exposed ridge past the window and along the open, steep, crumbly scree above Latvica to the summit of Mrzla Gora.
It is certainly a magnificent tour for such a modest height of the two peaks, both of which are difficult to reach even by the easiest routes.

Difficulty
The section from the saddle above Matkovo cirque (II), the ridge past the window and the steep, crumbly approach to the ridge of Mrzla Gora (up to II) are particularly difficult.
