Pecol - Foronon del Buinz / Špik nad Nosom (Ceria Merlone)

Access to the starting point:
a) From Kranjska Gora, drive through the Rateče border crossing to Trbiž / Tarvisio. In Trbiz, turn left towards Bovec and follow the road to the crossroads near Lake Rabeljsko. Here, turn right towards the Neveje Pass (Na Žlebeh) / Sella Nevea. As the road starts to descend towards the Reclan valley, a sharp left turn to the right leads to a narrow and steep road towards the Jôf di Montasio high plateau / Altopiano del Jôf di Montasio (there are signs in Italian at the crossroads). Follow this road to a large marked parking area located a few 100 m in front of the Pecol cheese cottage (no further driving).
b) From Bovec, drive to the Predel border crossing, from which you descend to the Italian side. Just after Lake Rabelj, you will reach a crossroads where you turn left towards Neveje Preval (Na Žlebeh) / Sella Nevea. As the road starts to descend towards the Reclana valley, a sharp left-hand bend turns off to the right onto a narrow and steep road towards the Jôf di Montasio high plateau / Altopiano del Jôf di Montasio (there are signs in Italian at the crossroads). Follow this road to a large marked parking lot located a few 100 m before the Pecol cheese cottage (no further driving).

Path description:
At the crossroads at the end of the parking lot, turn right towards the "Rifugio di Brazza" hut. Leave Pecol at a point where faint signs direct you left onto a footpath, which you follow at a moderate incline to a mountain hut. From the hut, continue in the direction of "Cima di Terrarossa" along a winding path that climbs over grassy slopes. Just a few dozen steps from the hut, you reach an unmarked crossroads, where you continue along the right-hand path (Montaž on the left). An increasingly scenic route leads you higher up the steep slopes of the Spike of the Hude Polica. Here, it is wise to wear a helmet due to the large number of ibex, which often eat through the rocks. We continue up the old military mulatier, which is not marked. A moderately steep path, where you can observe numerous ibex all the time, leads you higher up to a marked crossroads, where you continue to the right following the signs "Ceria Merlone", and to the left the path leads to Cima di Terrarossa
The Ceria Merlone trail initially follows a slightly overgrown military causeway and crosses the grassy slopes below the Spit above Tratico / Cime Gambon to the east. Later, the trail turns slightly to the left and climbs towards the Stub above Tratico. From the notch, continue right, first crossing a short scree slope and then entering the rocky part of the path. Somewhat faded markings lead us along natural passages to the south side of the mountain where we then climb steeply along the steel cable a few times. The trail continues along the broken rocks and occasionally we are also helped by a small rope. This route leads us to the Foronon del Buinz headland where a large cairn has been erected. Continue along the scenic main ridge, which soon gives way slightly to the right. There is a crossing of the slightly exposed ledges on the south side of the ridge and then a final climb to the top of Špik nad Nos.
