Trnovec - Brunarica Osovnik (via Mavški graben)

Access to the starting point:
a) First drive to Medvode, then leave the main road at the Špar shop and continue towards the railway station and Sora. In Sora, turn left towards Katarina, and when you reach Trnovec, look out for the red mountain signs for Osolnik on the right-hand side of the main road. A good 100 metres further on, at the turn-off of the dirt road, there are others. Park in the roadside parking lot, between the two branches of the Osolnik trail.
b) From Kranj, drive towards Škofja Loka, and from the outskirts of Škofja Loka follow the signs for Gorenjska vas. Before the Sten tunnel, take the exit from the roundabout towards Sora. Continue through Hosta, Pungert, Gosteče and Draga to Sora, where you turn right towards Katarina. When you reach Trnovec, look out for the red mountain signs for Osolnik on the right hand side of the main road. A good 100 metres further on, at the turn-off of the dirt road, there are others. Park in the roadside parking lot, between the two forks of the path to Osolnik.
c) From Poljanska dolina, drive towards Škofja Loka and then along the ring road and through the Sten tunnel. Turn right after the tunnel and follow the signs for Sora. Continue through Hosta, Pungert, Gosteče and Draga to Sora, where you turn right towards Katarina. When you reach Trnovec, look out for the red mountain signposts for Osolnik on the right-hand side of the main road. A good 100 metres further on, at the turn-off of the dirt road, there are others. Park in the roadside parking lot, between the two branches of the path to Osolnik.

Path description:
From the starting point we go back a little, then at a small hamlet we see signs for a circular route on Osolnik, which direct us to a side road, which changes to cart track when entering the forest. There follows an initially steep ascent along the Mavški graben stream, then the path becomes steeper and the stream more scenic. Higher up, cross the stream over a small bridge, then move out of the ravine onto the slope. There are a few more minutes of climbing through the forest, then at the edge of the hayfield, where the Osolnika peak is already visible on the left, the path turns right into the forest, where it completely flattens out for a while. There is a short moderate climb and then you reach the road where you join the path from Sora.
Continue left to a nearby crossroads, where a footpath to Osolnik branches off at a sign to the right, and we continue straight ahead, following the road on the left towards the Osovnik log cabin. Shortly after the crossroads, we exit the forest and continue for some time, enjoying beautiful views and no major changes in altitude. After crossing a short strip of forest, we climb a small pass where there are a few houses.
Continue straight down (to the right of the Osolnik peak), then go left at the first crossroads to the nearby Osovnik log cabin, which is only a short 10-step walk away.
