Access to the starting point:
On the Hungarian side, cross the Pince/Tornyszentmiklos crossing and head towards Budapest. When you reach the Budapest suburb of Törökbalint, turn towards Györ at the fork. Drive for another 50 kilometres to the Tatabanya Ovaros exit, where you leave the motorway. In the town, we drive to a roundabout where we turn north-west and drive all the way to the new part of the town of Ujvaros (Tatabanya is very reminiscent of Velenje). When we get to the railway station (Vasutakallomas in Hungarian), we see the first signs. We park somewhere in the town.
Path description:
The route officially starts at the Tatabanya railway station, where you will also see the first signs. At first we are accompanied by white, blue, green and yellow circles, and there are also a few tourist signs for the Turul emlekmü monument. When we reach Almos Vezer Street, we will also see the markings in the form of a red line in a white square, which will accompany us further eastwards. Go up the stairs, then around the building and we are at a point where there seems to be no more path. We find the way on through the gate of the sound fence, after which we cross the busy road. Cross the road and go ahead, then under the motorway and on along the blue fence of the waterworks. The path starts climbing up the stairs and then you reach Szöloshegy ut. Turn right here. After a few metres, the path with the red line goes left up the stairs, and we go straight on the asphalt. We walk on the asphalt for another 100 metres, then we reach the fork for the Kata ut ferata (also a variant of our route, bypassing the initial C/D climb), and we continue downhill a little further and we see our left fork into the forest. This is a good place to put on our self-protection kit and helmet.
We go into the forest and we are below the initial ascent of the cliff, where there is also an information board. The most difficult part of the Het vezer ferrata is the start where you will start with difficulty C, and halfway up the initial ascent there is an overhang D. After the overhang there is an easier traverse to the left, or north. Soon we reach the first suspension bridge (the Hungarians call it the Vietnamese bridge), where we are joined by a variant that bypasses the initial D climb. Next is another C climb, helped by some wedges, and then another bridge. After this bridge, there is a fairly challenging crossing of smooth rock slabs and another bridge. There is another crossing, and then the path climbs steeply. At the end of the climb there is a resting place where we get a great view of Tatabanya below us (actually the ferrata is almost all the time scenic, but due to the difficulty it is not possible or difficult to look down). There are some more easy traverses and we get to a place where we will reach a crossroads with the Kata ut ferrata. Go northeast, the path here is a bit easier but very exposed. When the path turns sharply upwards again, we come to the most attractive part of the trail - a suspension bridge about 15 metres long. After the bridge, there is a climb which leads to the last bridge, and after this we climb steeply again to the next C/D overhang, which is slightly easier than the initial one. After this part the path becomes much easier and the fixed safety gear ends. You quickly reach a crossroads marked P, where you continue left along the ridge (straight ahead to the parking lot), where after a three-minute walk you reach the Turul Emlekmű Monument, the largest eagle monument in Eastern Europe. At the monument you will be rewarded with an outstanding view of the town of Tatabanyu below, the town of Oroszlany to the west, and to the north-west. What I have to write is that the ropes on this ferry are slightly wider (2 cm) than those on the territory of Slovenia and Croatia (1 cm) - so you need to have wider lashings.
As the ferrata is located on the south-west slope, I recommend climbing in the morning because it gets quite hot from the sun later.
