Description of peak:
Trška gora is one of Slovenia's most famous wine mountains, where the southern slope is home to the world's largest number of farmhouses and where excellent cviček is produced. The northern slope is forested. The top of Trška Gora is adorned by the pilgrimage church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, which was mentioned by the Patriarch of Oglele, Peregrin, in 1135, together with the wine manor (Weinhoff) and the nearby vineyards, in his gift to the monastery of Stisza. At the foot of Trška Gora is the extensive complex of the Grm Agricultural Schol, together with an ampelographic vineyard. Trška Gora offers a paradisiacal view in all directions, as far as Žumberačka gora, towards the Kočevje Rog and the Krka Valley, and just below it lies Novo mesto, enveloped in the green emerald Krka River. Close to Trška Gora are the castles of Hmeljnik, Stari grad and Otočec. Among the vineyards and cottages on Trška Gora, a special poetic spirit reigns supreme, which inspired such cottage owners as composer Marjan Kozina, folk music virtuosos Lojze Slak, Henrik Burkat-Henček, Franc Potočar and many others. Lime trees have been growing for centuries on the top of Trška Gora (428 m), next to the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The oldest and mightiest one is 830 centimetres high at the chest. It is estimated to be over four hundred years old and is the thickest lime tree in Dolenjska. It has a hollow trunk, where a nice group of people can squeeze in, the canopy is artfully grown, and a lumpy green canopy rises to a height of three metres, in the shade of which an ancient stone table awaits its visitors.
