Description of lake:
Lake Cootapatamba is located at 2047 meters of elevation in the near vicinity of Mount Kosciuszko, the highest mainland peak of Australia. Lake Cootapatampa and some smaller neighboring lakes are the only remaining lakes formed by glaciers on mainland Australia (the lake was naturally dammed behind moraines). The name is of Aboriginal origin (from an old story-line from the north), Kau-oola-patamba, the place where the eagle drank). Please note that camping is not allowed in the vicinity of the lake.
