Access to the starting point:
From the motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice take the exit Kranj - west and follow the road in the route Golnika. Just after the village of Golnik (more precisely after the village of Senično), a steep road branches off to the right and leads towards Zgornje Vetern and Gozd. Shortly after the village of Zgornje Veterno, you will come to a marked parking area on the left side of the road (the starting point for the steep path), and we will continue driving along the ascending road, which will soon lead us to the Shelter in the Wods. You can park in one of the two large car parks next to the shelter, or drive another 100 metres to the car park next to the church.
Path description:
From the parking lot, first walk to the nearby church, then arrive at a marked crossroads where the path from Golnik joins from the right. Continue slightly to the left and continue the ascent along the road, which leads us past two consecutive NOB monuments above the village, where the road turns into a wide but steep cart track. After a short climb, cart track splits into two parts, and we continue on the left in the direction of Koča na Kriški gori (Tolsti vrh on the right). Cart track then passes by a waterworks and a weekend house and enters the wods, where it continues in a moderate ascent.
Only a little further on, the signs for Kriško hora direct us right (straight unmarked path to Kriško hora) to the slightly more rugged cart track, which turns into a relatively steep path higher up. Continue along a well-maintained path, along which you will notice a number of benches and the names of the benches next to them. Higher up, the path leads to a pasture fence and turns to the left only slightly higher up, where it then climbs cross-cuttingly. After a few minutes of cross-climbing, we emerge from the forest, where we can see Koča na Kriški gori ahead of us, which is only a few 10 steps of easy walking away.
From the hut we go back a few steps, and then continue in the direction of Tolstego vrh. The way forward climbs gently up and along the main ridge of Kriška gora, then gradually moves to the southern slopes. After about 20 minutes of walking from Koča na Kriški gori, you will notice a less well-trodden path to the left of the marked path, which then disappears after only a few metres. Take the path mentioned above, which, as mentioned, disappears among the grasses after a few 10 steps. From the point where the path disappears, look for the most suitable passage between dwarf pines and the bushes, after which you will enter an easily passable and grassy world. Continue straight up the slope and you will reach the top in a few minutes.
