Access to the starting point:
a) from the route of ljubljana:
Exit the Primorska motorway (A1) at Črne Kale and take the old motorway towards the sea. After 3 km turn left at a major junction towards Hrastovlje and the Croatian border and after 1 km turn left again. Through Kubed you reach Gračišče, where in front of the school building you turn left towards Rakitovec, which is reached by signs through Smokvica and Movraž. At the end of the slope, cross the Pula railway line and turn right 1 km towards Border crossing Rakitovec, where you can park your car or, 300 m before Border crossing, turn left along cart track and park in a clearing about 2 km further on - thus reducing the 100 m elevation difference and half an hour of walking.
b) FROM THE KOPRA DIRECTION:
From Koper, take the old motorway towards Ljubljana. At Rižana turn right towards Hrastovlje and follow the main road towards the border - see above for the rest.
Path description:
From the parking lot at the border crossing, head north towards the range of uncultivated peaks (Kavčič, Lipnik, Golič) along the dirt track through the forest. After half an hour's walk (2 km), you reach a clearing and turn right onto a track which you follow to the top, without leaving it (there are many forest tracks branching off from it, but they are visibly overgrown). The road begins to climb serpentinely at first and then, mostly with a gentle incline, leads towards the top. Passing a rocky cliff on the left, after a hundred metres of steep path, you reach a landing in the living rock, thus entering the savannah landscape of a wreath of uncultivated peaks. From here, you can either follow the steep goat track to the left straight to the summit or continue along the road for another 15 minutes and cross meadows to reach the summit. The peaks are kopjecky and not distinct, the Kavčič peak is recognisable by its iron and wooden cross.
