Aljažev dom v Vratih - Spodnji Stenar (via Sovatna)

Access to the starting point:
Leave the Gorenjska motorway at the Hrušica exit and follow the road towards Kranjska Gora. Just before the village of Dovje, the road branches off to the left and leads to Mojstrana (Vrata, Kot and Krma). Follow the road in the direction of the Vrata valley and follow it to the large parking lot near the Aljaž's home.

Path description:
From the large parking lot in the Vrata valley, continue along the macadam road, which will take you to the Aljaž's House in Vrat within a three-minute walk.
From the house, continue straight ahead in the direction of Triglav, Stenar and Kriški Podi (Škrlatica on the right) and continue along the wide tourist trail. The way forward climbs only considerably through the lane of a forest, where we pass a winter bivouac on the right, then the forest thins out and after a few minutes of further walking we reach a large wedge (a monument dedicated to the fallen partisan mountaineers). From the monument we continue straight (left Tominškova path) along the path, which gradually returns to the forest and leads us slightly higher to a marked crossroads, where we continue to the right towards Pogačnik's home (straight Triglav and Luknja). From the crossroads onwards the path begins to climb steeply through the beech forest (the area is called Bukovlje), and just above 1300 m above sea level it leads us to a pleasant little well, which, however, dries up in dry periods. A few minutes of walking through the forest or higher bushes follows and the path leads us out of the forest at the foot of Sovatna, where we join a rather overgrown path from the bivouac under Luknja.
From here on the path becomes steeper and more scenic. The path from which we have beautiful views of the Triglav north wall, but higher up leads us to a short slightly exposed passage, where greater caution is needed, especially in the wet. The way ahead is slightly smother, but continues to climb relatively steeply. A climb through rubble follows, then the valley narrows and the path leads us to a short rocky jump over which we climb with the help of the reliable fixed safety gear.
Above the jump, the slope flattens out, and the way ahead takes us through a series of valleys where we often see a flock of ibex. The path goes higher up to the left side of the valley, where it then crosses a broad and, for a short part, slightly exposed ledge. From here it is a short 10 steps walk and the path leads to a marked crossroads at Dovški vrata.
From here continue right towards Stenar and Križ (left Bovški Gamsovec and Pogačnikov dom) and continue the ascent along the initially gently sloping and then increasingly steep path, which quickly leads to the crossroads below Stenarske vrataci. Continue right again (left Križ) along the increasingly scenic path, which is joined only a few steps higher by an unmarked path through the Stenar Gate. Continue across the scree and walk up to the steep slopes of Stenar, taking in the beautiful views of Triglav, Bovški Gamsovec, Pihavec and the valley of Trenta. Continue along the Stenar Gate to the steep slopes of Stenar. From here on, the path begins to climb steeply on the beautifully dissected rocks, then turns sharply to the left, where after a few 10 m it suddenly lies down. Here, or just over 10 m earlier, the pathless approach to Spodnji Stenar branches off to the right.
At the point where the marked path turns sharp left, just a few metres off the path you will see cairn, which marks the start of the "path" to Spodnji Stenar. Continue past cairn, after which you will soon reach a large pothole. Go around the chasm on the right and, after a few minutes of moderate ascent along a pathless path, reach the unmarked summit of Spodnji Stenar.
