Access to the starting point:
a) From the Ljubljana - Maribor motorway, take the Žalec exit and then continue in the direction of Velenje. At the main roundabout in Velenje, turn right and continue towards Slovenj Gradec and Dravograd. Shortly before Slovenj Gradec, at Turiška vas, turn right and follow the local road into the centre of Turiška vas. Here you continue along the main road, which turns right and then over the bridge over the Mislinja River to Brda. After the bridge, turn right and the road enters the forest, where it gradually begins to climb. In the part of the route where the road passes through the forest, park in a suitable place along the road (there are no suitable parking places higher up).
b) From Koroška, first drive to Slovenj Gradec, then continue to Velenje. A little after Slovenj Gradec, at Turiška vas, turn left and follow the local road into the centre of Turiška vas. Here, continue along the main road, which turns to the right, and then over the bridge over the Mislinja River to Brda. After the bridge, turn right and the road enters the forest, where it gradually begins to climb. In the part of the route where the road passes through the forest, park in a suitable place along the road (there are no suitable parking places higher up).
Path description:
From the starting point, continue along the road along which we parked, which after a few minutes leads to a small crossroads, where we continue left in the direction of the homesteads Merkač, Orter and Pegan. When you get to a small hamlet of a few houses, continue along the upper right road, and just a little higher up you will see the first markings (the signs for the European walking route E6 Baltic-Adriatic). Here, continue right on cart track, which first climbs along the edge of the forest and then turns into fields and meadows. Cross the meadow on the less well-trodden cart track, and the path leads higher up to a forest road, which is only crossed as the ascent continues along a waymarked footpath. Orientation is much easier, as we are accompanied by quite dense and clearly visible markings. A little higher up, cross the macadam road once more and the trail turns into a dense forest, ending at the hunting observation post. There is a climb over a grassy hayfield, and the path quickly leads to a secluded farm where you step out onto the road. Continue along the road, and after a few minutes it leads to a marked crossroads by the chapel.
Continue straight ahead (right St Magdalena for 5 minutes) and continue along the road for a short distance, then turn left onto the marked footpath. The path quickly passes out of the wods and onto a meadow, over which you climb in a few minutes to a small hamlet. Above the hamlet, leave the road again and continue the ascent along cart track, which climbs moderately through the forest. Higher up, passing St Stephen's Chapel on the right, the path leads to the next hamlet at the Pridgar homestead.
Continue along the footpath, which returns to the forest and crosses the asphalt road leading from Slovenj Gradec to Kopy just a little higher up. The path continues through the forest for a short distance and then leads to the next homestead.
From the homestead, near which there is a small chapel and a NOB monument, we return to the forest, and we continue our ascent for some time along the relatively well-marked cart track. Much higher up, we come out on a wider dirt road leading to the Partisan's Home (marked footpath E6 continues in the same direction), and we continue straight up on the wider but unmarked cart track. We continue up the relatively wide cart track, which has a few side branches, but we keep to the one that is somewhat "main" and mostly follows the same direction. Higher up, the cart track, which runs for most of the way between the blueberry bushes, narrows a little and gradually curves a little to the right. The forest thins out a little further on, and the path finally leads us out of the forest and a little higher up onto the grassy slopes of Velika Kopa, which are becoming more and more visible. Next, we walk to the bottom station of the ski lift, and from there we continue along the marked path, which leads us to a scenic peak within 10 minutes of further walking.
