Access to the starting point:
The starting point is reached by local roads that branch off from the Udine/S Udine motorway exit (Sud or Nord - in both cases follow the signs for Spilimbergo and Maniago). After Maniago, signs point you towards the Val Cellina mountain valley, passing through the tourist town of Barcis, by the lake of the same name, and continuing all the way to the hamlet of Cellino di Sopra (Cellino di Sopra). Just before the village, we turn onto a dirt road, and after less than a kilometre we park in an unmarked parking lot.
Path description:
From the parking lot, continue along the road, which crosses the Chialedina mountain stream in a wide curve, then becomes slightly steeper, and tarmaced on the steeper parts. After less than an hour, you reach the first turnoff, where you continue straight on the road, with route No 969 on the left, to the Forcella Giaveit or M. Provagna (1696m). In the next half hour we reach the mountain pasture Casera Gravuzza, where the road ends (it is also possible to drive here). To the right, the 902 trail continues to the Frugna notch, while ours heads left into the valley. The path becomes more strenuous as you leave the forest, leading over a wide torrent channel and alongside it to a moraine. We descend into a ravine and over a steep and difficult terrain under a rocky overhang, visible from a distance, into the forest again. A little higher up, the path becomes less visible and it is necessary to follow the markings; at this point there is a sign cairn. Our path continues to the left through the woods, with an unmarked, more visible path leading on under the Cima Lastei. The path then leads us shortly, via a short steel cable, over rocks to the extensive steep slopes of loess and tall grasses. The path, which is difficult to follow here, mostly follows the edge of the grassy slope. Orientation is no longer difficult, but the steepness eases a little higher up, as we enter the world below the summit of the Cima Lastei, the side peak of the Col Nudo, and the path soon leads us to the Passo di Valbona pass. From the pass, continue along the western edge of the broad grassy slope of Cima Lastei, avoiding a short rocky jump to the right, before regaining the edge to reach the summit of Cima Lastei. The trail then descends to a connecting rocky ridge, briefly drops to its southern side and then, via a narrow notch (difficult), regains the narrower ridge (very exposed). There is a further easy section of the trail on a rubbly slope to the summit.
