Charlotte Pass - Mount Kosciuszko (Summit Walk)

Charlotte Pass is situated in Kosciuszko National Park in New South Wales 2627, Australia. Charlotte Pass is connected by the 39,8 km long Kosciuszko Rd that starts at a roundabout 1,5 km northwest from Jindabyne, New South Wales 2627, Australia. No public transport is available.

Path description:
The Summit Walk begins at the end of Kosciuszko Rd. a few hundred meters from the parking places at Charlotte Pass. Just 30 meters away, a more difficult Main Range Track begins as well (a track that traverses a range along the highest mountains of (mainland) Australia). Both paths are well marked, and while the Summit Walk begins with a slight ascent, the Main Range Track begins with a descent. In the first kilometer of Summit Walk, a forest ends. At around the 5th kilometer, there is a bridge over the Snowy River. A well-marked wide path reaches Seaman's hut after approximately 6,5 kilometers and Rawson Pass after 7,7 kilometers of walking distance from the starting point (another track also joins at Rawson Pass, i.e. Kosciuszko Walk from Thredbo / Top of Kosciuszko Express chairlift). Mountain bikes are not allowed beyond this point.

From Rawson Pass, a wide dusty track continues up to the Mount Kosciuszko. It circles the mountain before reaching the top. A beautiful view can be enjoyed at the top (also towards the second-highest mountain in the (mainland) Australia, i.e. Mount Townsend, 2209m). A return trip is possible also via Main Range Track.
