Access to the starting point:
The starting point is Sappada in Italy (Udine province), the postal code is 32047. One way reaches Sappada via Tolmezzo through Villa Santina, Comeglians and Forni Avoltri. Another alternative reaches Sappada from the west via Santo Stefano di Cadore, where the road forks to Sappada. The starting point is at the parking place at the lower chairlift station on the eastern side on the outskirts of Cima Sappada.
Path description:
The track begins directly under the chairlift where signposts mark different directions. Follow the track no. 321 in direction west along the meadow. Soon, a less visible trail forks left directly up through the forest (the fork is not well-marked and the trail is slightly overgrown with dense vegetation in some sections), but it is better to follow the track further. Within few minutes, the track joins the skiing slope, where it makes a 180° turn. Not long after that, the trail and track join together again. The track slowly ascends and it eventually regains its westbound direction. In this section, a trail again forks left up the forest (not recommended, the trail was damaged in autumn 2018 by the severe storms, and by the end of 2019 the trail was still closed), nevertheless, it is again better to continue west. The track soon joins the ski slope. Follow the steep ski slope up. This section offers great vistas to the Sappada below and to the Piccolo Siera above. The slope turns left and rejoins the closed trail. From here, follow two long turns to the hut Monte Siera (it. Rifugio Monte Siera).
