Access to the starting point:
From the motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice, at the Podtabor fork, continue in the direction of Ljubelj and Tržič. Continue along the first expressway and then the regional road in the direction of Ljubelj. At the last left turn on the Slovenian side, which is about 500 m after the concentration camp, turn right onto the macadam road, which you follow for another 100 m to a slightly larger macadam parking lot.
Path description:
From the parking lot, continue along the worse macadam road, which ends after a few minutes at a nearby torrent. Here, the signs for mountain pasture Korošica direct us to the right to a well-maintained old border or hunting trail. The ascent continues in numerous serpentines along a path that climbs relatively steeply through the forest. Higher up, you reach a lookout point, and the trail turns left at this point and then climbs moderately to steeply for some time. Higher up, we come to cart track, and we follow it for only a few 10 m, then at a small crossroads, we leave it and continue straight on. The path immediately returns to the forest, and we continue to climb along a pleasant forest path, which leads us a little further to a small crossroads, where a less well-trodden path branches off to the left, and we continue to the hard right. The path then lays down and leads us out of the forest onto the grazing slopes. The way forward continues to cross the slopes to the right and leads us slightly further to a marked crossroads.
Continue sharp left (right mountain pasture Korošica 5 minutes) in the direction of Koča na Ljubelju and Loibler Baba. The way forward briefly crosses the slopes to the left, then climbs moderately and leads us in a few minutes of further walking to the border ridge, where we join the path from the Cottage na Ljubelju on the left.
Continue to the right and after a few minutes of further walking you will reach a marked crossroads, where you continue to the left over a fence behind the Hainschgraben / Hajnžev graben markers.
From the crossroads, the path first descends slightly, then turns right and crosses the slopes of Loibler Baba to the left. At first the trail descends a little further, but then it starts to climb crosswise behind an interesting cliff. After a few minutes of cross-climbing, with fine views of the surrounding mountains, you quickly reach Dovjakovo sedlo, where you once again cross a grazing fence.
At the pasture fence, the path to Lokovnikov Grintovec branches off to the left, and we look slightly left for the continuation of the marked path, which descends crosswise to the other side of Lokovnik's Grintovec. After a few minutes of cross-country descent, the path leads us to an unmarked ridge, along which we continue our descent to an unmarked saddle between Lokovnik's Grintovec and Hajnž's Praprotnik. At the saddle, a faint marked trail turns right downhill towards Hajnžev Grajn, and we continue left over a pasture fence, then descend gently to the north-east. At this point the path disappears completely, and we continue along the fold to cairn, after which a fainter path appears on the slope (if we continue left down here we reach Lokovnikova mountain pasture, but if we keep right, along the ridge, we are stopped by dwarf pines).
It is very good to stick to the worse path, as it takes you over the steep part without any major problems. Above the steep slope, the path passes between dwarf pines, but occasionally it still climbs steeply. Higher up, the ridge Hajnžev Praprotnik is reached, and the path continues for some time through the sometimes quite overgrown dwarf pines. Despite the occasional heavi overgrowth, the path through dwarf pines is quite easy to follow.
At the ridge, the trail flattens out, and there are a few more short ascents and descents to the main summit. Before reaching the summit, the dwarf pines ends, and we first climb steeply up to the ridge, which we then follow in a few 10 steps to reach the summit.
Starting point - Dovjakovo sedlo 2:20, Dovjakovo sedlo - Hajnžev Praprotnik 55 minutes.
