Concentration camp - Loibler Baba/Košutica (Gerhard Orasch-Steig)

Access to the starting point:
From the motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice, at the Podtabor fork, continue in the direction of Ljubelj and Tržič. Continue along the first expressway and then the regional road in the direction of Ljubelj. At the last left turn on the Slovenian side, which is about 500 m after the concentration camp, turn right onto the macadam road, which you follow for another 100 m to a slightly larger macadam parking lot.

Path description:
From the parking lot, follow cart track until it turns sharp right into the forest. A steeper climb follows in a series of switchbacks. Soon you reach a lookout bench from where you can see the peaks above Zelenica. From here it is a short walk through a dense groove of young spruces to mountain pasture, which is closed by a wooden fence. Now the climb is over, we walk almost horizontally below the Grunta ridge (1627 m). The western side of the Košutica rises in front of us. After a few bends and gentle climbs, there is a short descent. When you reach a fork, turn left (signpost: Koča na Ljubelju; take the right-hand path and you will soon reach the mountain pasture Korošica). From there, steeply follow the dirt track to the border ridge, where the path from the old Ljubelje joins from the left. Turn right and continue steeply along the dwarf pines vegetated ridge. Soon you reach the next fork, where a signpost directs you left towards Dovjakovo saddle. After crossing the border (grazing) fence, continue almost horizontally under the northern wall of Ljubeljska Baba. Once around the larger conglomerate boulder, there is a shorter, steeper section to negotiate and you are standing on Dovjakovo saddle. Turn right and continue towards the north-eastern slope of Ljubeljska Baba. Faded markers point us towards a ridge covered with dwarf pines. Climb up the left side to its edge, where you turn left and continue up a steep ravine. Climb this past a small tower (difficulty level II) to another gully, over which you climb to the base of the summit, where the steepness eases considerably. The summit is reached by a short climb over rather crumbly scree covered with grasses and a rare dwarf pines. Faded red dots are a constant aid to orientation. The summit is just below the newly erected cross.
