Da Strobel - Col dei Bos (Via ferrata degli Alpini)

Access to the starting point:
a) Access from Gorenjska: Via Border crossing Rateče or Predel to Trbiž / Tarvisio and then along the motorway towards Udine to the Tolmezzo exit. From Tolmezzo, follow the road towards Ampezzo and the Passo della Mauria mountain pass. The road then descends and leads to a crossroads where you turn left (possibly right) towards Cortina d'Ampezzo. At all subsequent junctions, follow the signs for Cortina d'Ampezzo.
In Cortina d'Ampezzo, follow the signs for the Passo di Falzarego Alpine pass. A few hundred metres before the pass, park in the parking lot of the Ristorante Grill da Strobel. The Rifugio Col Gallina hut is also nearby.
b) From the coastal side: Take the motorway towards Venice/Venezia. At Portogruaro, leave the motorway towards Venice and turn right on the motorway towards Pordenone. At the next motorway junction near Conegliano, turn right towards Belluno. The motorway ends near Belluno and we continue towards Cortina d'Ampezzo at the next junctions. Continue as described above.

Path description:
Take the larger parking lot next to the Ristorante Grill da Strobel and at the end of the parking lot you will see signs directing you to the footpath. The path soon crosses a small bridge and then starts to climb through dwarf pines. Beautiful views of the mountains to the south of the Falzarego Pass begin to open up. After climbing through dwarf pines, the path leads us to a crossroads where the path from the above-mentioned pass joins from the left.
Continue to the right along the military causeway, which leads past the ruins of a military hospital from the First World War. From the ruins, continue along the mulatier for a few dozen metres and you will reach a marked crossroads. Bear slightly left, following the signs "Ferrata degli Alpini", and slightly further left, an unmarked path leads down the valley, which can be followed later.
From the crossroads, the path climbs gently eastwards and leads to the foot of the slopes of the Col dei Bos peak, where the start of the protected path is located.
At the start of the protected route, equip yourself with a helmet and a self-protection kit; climbing gloves are also highly recommended. From the very beginning, the protected route climbs almost vertically and it is necessary to have some strength in your arms to climb. There is a steep gully to climb, and then the difficulty drops a shade. Occasionally there is a steep climb, and a few scrambles help. In the second part, the belayed route climbs steeply again, but there are a few more holds, so the climbing is a shade easier than at the start. In the last part, the climbing is mostly a bit less difficult, but there are still a few places where you climb almost vertically.
On a grassy slope just below the summit, the protected route ends. Continue left here and quickly reach an unmarked crossroads. The left-hand path bypasses the summit and leads to the north-west side of the mountain from where you can then descend into the valley. We continue slightly to the right and there is an easy climb up a very scenic path to the summit.
From the top, descend north-westwards and then follow the unmarked path that runs under the western slopes of the mountain. Much of this route has been seen on the protected climbing route. From the summit there is also the option to continue to hut Rifugio Lagazuoi, but this is also an unmarked route.
The Ferrata degli Alpini is a relatively new route, having been created in 2009.
