Access to the starting point:
a) From the motorway Ljubljana - Maribor, take the exit Žalec and then continue in the direction of Velenje. At the main roundabout (2nd roundabout) in Velenje, under the ski jump, turn right in the direction of Slovenj Gradec. Pass through Velenje and the town of Paka at Velenje. After about 2 km after Paka pri Velenje, a sign with the inscription Paški Kozjak directs you to the right on the local road towards Kamnolom. Turn onto it. Cross the bridge over the river Paka. Before the quarry, the road turns left and after 6 km leads to Dom na Paškem Kozjaku, where we park.
b) From Koroška, go through Slovenj Gradec towards Velenje. Between the villages Gornji Dolič and Paka pri Velenju, a sign with the inscription Paški Kozjak directs you left on the local road towards the Kamnolom. Turn onto it. Cross the bridge over the river Pako. Before the quarry, the road turns left and after 6 km leads to Dom na Paškem Kozjaku, where we park.
Path description:
From the parking lot at Dom na Paškem Kozjaku, continue along the dirt road. After the water reservoir, leave the road and turn left onto the lane, which will lead you after a few minutes to the parking lot of the parish church of St. Jost.
A mountain sign directs us towards Basališče in a slight bank, away from the macadam road. At the beginning the path is wide and pleasant. The markings are also clearly visible. The trail slowly leads to a ridge, which is wider at first, but soon narrows a little. The first rocks appear. They are not high and precipitous, but caution is still needed in places. In snow or ice, the path is a little tricky, but in dry conditions it is pleasant and full of little curiosities. You quickly get used to the narrow, jagged path that leads along the left and right sides of the ridge, and mostly along the ridge itself. At first, the path leads gently upwards, then there is a short descent, and before the summit it becomes steep.
The whole ridge is covered with trees. There are only a few places where you can see, and then only in winter, when the trees are bare.
Continue walking straight along the ridge, without turning anywhere. Only here and there does a view open up of the surrounding hills to the north of our ridge. After a short descent, we find ourselves on the edge of a grassy plateau, called Ostrica by the locals. Ahead of us, on the right hand side, we can see our goal, Štrukljev vrh.
Continue walking along the edge of the forest on the left or along the centre of the grassy valley. Bear left towards the mountain signs on one of the higher trees near the hunting observation post. From here, cross the grassy meadow and look on the other side for the signpost for the start of the path to Štrukljev vrh. Further on, the path is well marked with red or white lines. It is still less than half an hour's walk to the top along an easy but steep path.
