Access to the starting point:
Between Trenta and Bovec, the road to Lepena branches off at the village of Soča. Follow this road, which is completely asphalted, to the parking area of the Dr. Klement Hugo House in Lepena.
Path description:
From the Home of Dr. Klement Hugo in Lepena, follow the path in the direction of Dom pri Krnskih jezerih, Gomiščkovo zavetišče na Krnu and Dom na Komni. Right from the parking lot, the trail turns into a forest, through which it climbs on a wide mulatier. The mulatier is mostly a moderate ascent (the steep ascent in the lower part has been out of use for some time) through the forest, with only occasional views of the valley and surrounding mountains. During the ascent, we also cross the route of a cargo cableway several times, which is forbidden to cross when the cableway is not in operation. After a good hour and a half of walking, the trail lays down and leads us just a little further to the top station of the cargo cableway.
From here on, the path leads along the edge of a small valley, and quickly leads to the place where the snow cover is measured every April. There is a short descent and then you arrive at a marked crossroads where the path to Veliki Baba branches off to the left. Continue straight ahead and the trail soon forks again.
You can continue along the left path, which leads past the Mountain Home at Krnsko jezero, or you can take the right path, which is only slightly shorter and bypasses the Mountain Home. The two paths join in front of the pasture at mountain pasture Duplje, and after the pasture we arrive at the next crossroads.
Continue left in the direction of Dom na Komni (straight ahead Krn and Krnsko jezero) along the path from which the path to Veliki Šmohor soon branches off to the right, and after a short climb, at the beginning of the Doliči contour, the path to Prehodce also branches off to the right. In both cases, continue straight on, and then, after a passing lay-by, the path begins to climb steeply again. Once the path has been re-laid, we arrive in the valley Za Lepočami, where the path leads us past several buildings dating from the time of the Rappal border, built by the Italians to serve the needs of the belaying national border. At Za Lepočami another path joins from the right at Prehodci, and we continue on a moderate ascent, with occasional completely level parts, until Bogatinsko sedlo, where the next marked crossroads is located.
From Bogatinsko sedlo, where the path to Lanževica branches off to the left and the path to Bogatin branches off to the right, we continue straight on in the direction of Koča pod Bogatinom and Dom na Komni and start descending towards mountain pasture at Kraje. With fine views, we descend moderately at first, and then only gently as we descend lower down. When you reach mountain pasture, continue right at the crossroads and walk to the nearby Hut pod Bogatin. Lepena - Dom pri Krnsko jezero 2:00, Dom pri Krnsko jezero - Bogatinsko sedlo 2:00, Bogatinsko sedlo - Koča pod Bogatinom 1:00.
The description refers to the situation in August and September 2018 and the images are from different periods.
