Dorfarje - Sveti Križ (Križna Gora) (via Planica)

Access to the starting point:
a) From Ljubljana, drive to Medvode and from there continue to Škofja Loka. When you arrive at Škofja Loka, do not drive into the centre, but continue "straight on" in the direction of Kranja. In Dorfarje, you will see signs for Crngrob, which will direct you to the left, onto the road that will lead you through the village. First, we pass the Prevc furniture salon, then the turn-off to the farm at Brojan, and then the Cegnar and Zakotnik nurseries, after which the rather narrow road through the village widens slightly. After the village, there is a short descent and the path leads to a large parking lot next to the Slovenian army firing range.
b) First we drive to Kranj, and from there we continue to Škofja Loka. Before arriving in Škofja Loka, turn right at Dorfarje in the direction of Crngrob. First pass the Prevc furniture salon, then the turn-off to the farm at Brojan, and on past the Cegnar and Zakotnik nurseries, after which the rather narrow road through the village widens slightly. After the village, there is a short descent and the path leads to a large parking lot next to the Slovenian army firing range.
c) From Žiri, Cerkno or Železniki, drive to Škofja Loka and from there continue towards Kranj. In Dorfarje, you will see signs for Crngrob, which will direct you to the left, to the road that will lead you through the village. First, you pass the Prevc furniture salon, then the turn-off to the farm at Brojan, and then the Cegnar and Zakotnik nurseries, after which the rather narrow road through the village widens slightly. After the village, there is a short descent and the path leads to a large parking lot next to the Slovenian army firing range.

Path description:
From the parking lot, follow the road back to Dorfarje, then turn left at two consecutive junctions. After the last house, the asphalt ends and we continue on the dirt track which leads past the goat house. We continue for a short distance across a large meadow, and then the completely grassy track turns left and descends slightly. After a short descent, we approach a stream bed, which we then cross with the help of a wooden bridge. On the other side of the footbridge, continue along the stream for a while, and then the well-worn but unmarked path begins to climb gently. After a few minutes, you will reach a track which you follow to the left, and we follow it to where it crosses a small stream. Just after the stream, go slightly left on a well-worn path, which again starts to climb gently. Higher up, the path passes into the woods and a little further on joins the next track, which climbs moderately for a few more 10 steps, then lays down and leads us to a ridge and a little further on to a crossroads. From the crossroads, continue along the right-hand cart track, and after a few 10 steps, turn slightly left onto a steep footpath which continues along a wooded ridge. After a few minutes of steep ascent, you reach the unmarked peak of Pošpoh (626 m), from which you can see through the treetops towards Šmarjetna Gora.
There is an easy descent and then the path widens into a track. A little further on, at a small crossroads, continue slightly to the left, then climb cross-country for a while. The trail continues past the NOB Memorial Park, and after a few minutes you reach the turning point of the nearby road. The path continues along the road, which descends slightly, then leads out of the forest, where it leads past a beehive farm and a hunting observatory. A short walk follows and we join the marked path from Crngrob
Continue straight ahead, along the road which becomes asphalted and which leads us past a bench and a water trough to a slightly larger crossroads, where we continue left in the direction of Planica (here we will see the NOB memorial to the right and straight ahead from the path). The path ahead leads us along an asphalted road which quickly leads to the settlement of Planica, where we take a sharp right at the first houses in the direction of the church at Planica. At the nearby sign (cross), leave the road and continue along a pleasant path which begins to climb moderately. The trail continues through the forest, only in the part where the trail leads us past the cottage, a nice view opens up, which reaches to Polhograjsko hribovje and Lubnik. Higher up, the trail leads to a nondescript ridge, along which, within a minute or two of further walking, we reach the Church of St. Gabriel the Archangel at Planica. From the top, continue along the macadam road, which becomes asphalt at a nearby residential house, and we descend to a small chapel by the water reservoir, where the road turns left.
Here, where the path joins from the left and bypasses the top of Planica, we continue straight on to a track which begins to descend gently. Cart track soon descends even more steeply, and then leads out of the forest onto a grassy slope which offers a fine view of part of the Škofjeloško hribovje (the view of the hills from Lubnik through Stari vrh to Blegoš). The path climbs gently over the slope and then returns to the forest, through which it begins to descend again. At a lower level you reach a dirt road, which you follow straight ahead, climbing gently to the nearby bus turnaround. At the NOB memorial, you come out of the forest again, and then follow the asphalt road down to a relatively new and well-maintained parking area above the village of Križna Gora.
From here it is downhill for a while and then, passing the trail branch to the Praprotno settlement, you will reach a crossroads in the middle of the village of Križna Gora, from where you will continue to the right in the direction of the church and the hunting lodge. Continue along a fairly scenic and initially still asphalted road, which climbs gently towards a high-voltage power line. After the power line, the road flattens out, or even drops slightly, and then a path branches off to the left, leading directly towards the Church of St. Križ.
Continue along the path parallel to the road, which will take you to the church in a few minutes.
From the church, which offers a beautiful view, continue along the well-trodden path, which continues slightly to the right and returns to the road we have recently left. Once on the road, continue slightly left and within a minute's walk you will reach the hunting lodge, which is located at the edge of the forest.
