Access to the starting point:
First, drive to Koper, and from there continue in the direction of Pula via the Dragonja border crossing. A few 100 metres before the state border, at the traffic lights, turn left (straight Border crossing Dragonja, right Sečovlje) in the direction of Dragonja. Continue through Dragonja, then at the next crossroads continue slightly left in the direction of the villages of Sveti Peter and Nova vas. From this junction, follow the main road for another 100 metres, then reach a triangular junction where the road to Sveti Peter branches off to the left, the road continues straight ahead through the valley Dragonja, and a bus stop can be seen on the right. At this crossroads, the footpath to St Peter's or the Church of the Holy Spirit begins. There are no parking spaces at the starting point.
Path description:
From the bus stop, continue towards Sv. Peter and Nová vas on the ascending asphalt road. After a few 100 metres, you reach a left turn, where you leave the asphalt road and continue to the right along a worse macadam road (further along the asphalt road, the north-western route), which soon crosses a small torrential ravine. After a nearby olive grove, the road finally turns into cart track, which splits into two parts under a power line. Continue along the lower right-hand cart track, which continues to cross the sloping hills to the right. After a short descent, join the second wider cart track, which you start to climb again. Higher up, looking back, we get some views towards the Dragonja valley, but the path leads us into the lane of low forest, where we continue right at the next crossroads. A few minutes of traversing to the right, and then we arrive in a more interesting rocky world, where a wide path leads us over a mini precipice. On the other side of this section, the path climbs moderately and then leads us past a hunting observation post under the next power line, where the path from the village of Krkavče joins us from the right.
Continue left in the direction of Sveti Petro, following the path which, after a further short climb, leads between olive groves on the left and fields on the right. With beautiful views of the surrounding hills, we soon reach an asphalt road, which we follow to the left, and we follow it to a left turn, where signs lead us to the right to cart track, which after a few steps splits into two parts. Continue along the upper left-hand cart track, which crosses the slopes to the right, and then leads past a house (a cottage) to another tarmac road.
When you reach the road, take a sharp left (slightly to the right is the centre of Sveti Peter) and within a few minutes you reach the cemetery church of the Holy Ghost, from where you have a beautiful view over the surrounding hills.
Description and pictures refer to the situation in 2014 (November).
