Access to the starting point:
a) Drive to Nova Gorica, then continue to Tolmin and Kobarid. Follow the main road towards Tolmin only as far as Solkan, where at the semaphoreised junction turn right towards Sveta Gora and Grgar. The ascending road continues past the quarry Solkan, then a little higher up turns sharp right and leads to the Skalnica Inn, after which we arrive first at a crossroads where a steep road branches off to the left towards Sveta Gora, and only a little further on to a crossroads where the road continues slightly to the left towards Grgar, Čepovan and Banjšice (slightly to the right Trnovo and Lokve). After a short descent, you arrive at Grgar, where at the crossroads by the NOB monument you continue straight ahead to the nearby sports ground next to the primary school, next to which you park in a larger parking lot.
b) From Tolmin or Most na Soči take the main road towards Nova Gorica, then just before Nova Gorica, more precisely at the traffic lights at Solkan, turn left in the direction of Sveta Gora and Grgar. The ascending road continues past the quarry Solkan, then a little higher up it turns sharp right and leads to the Skalnica inn, after which we arrive first at a crossroads where a steep road branches off to the left towards Sveta Gora, and just a little further on to a crossroads where the road continues slightly to the left towards Grgar, Čepovan and Banjšice (slightly to the right Trnovo and Lokve). After a short descent, you arrive at Grgar, where at the crossroads by the NOB monument you continue straight ahead to the nearby sports ground next to the primary school, next to which you park in a larger parking lot.
c) From Goriško Brdy, drive to Solkan, where at the first crossroads after the new Solkan bridge, continue straight towards Svete Gora. The ascending road continues past the quarry Solkan, then turns sharp right a little higher and leads to the Skalnica Inn, beyond which you reach first a crossroads where a steep road branches off to the left towards Sveta Gora, and just a little further on to a crossroads where a road continues slightly to the left towards Grgar, Čepovan and Banjšice (slightly to the right Trnovo and Lokve). Trnovo and Banjšice (slightly to the right Trnovo and Lokve). After a short descent, you arrive at Grgar, where at the crossroads by the NOB monument you continue straight ahead to the nearby sports ground next to the primary school, next to which you park in a larger parking lot.
Path description:
From the parking lot, return to the NOB monument, and from there continue along the road on the left (as seen from the route of access to the starting point, if you came from Nova Gorica), which is soon joined from the right by a "shortcut" (from the parking lot, you don't need to go to the monument, as there is a shorter road that starts a little bit in front of the parking lot and continues westwards). Walk along the pavement for a short distance and then, at the point where the main road turns right, continue straight ahead on the narrow asphalt road. Walk along this road for about 50 metres and then the signs for Sveta Gora direct you to the left onto another road where you first pass the "last" house and then the road continues across a meadow. Follow the tarmac until you reach the marker for pipeline No 443, from where you continue along the road on the left in the direction of Sveta Gora. Just a few steps further on, turn left off the dirt road towards the marked path to Sveta Gora via Križce (straight ahead Sveta Gora via Ranjeki, Sreda and over Frančiškov Hill).
Continue along the cart track, which leads quickly to a stone barrier, and along it to the Slatnik stream, which is crossed, and then on the other side continue further to the left. Cross the wider cart track, at the same time crossing the route of the power line. Then climb through the forest along a less well-trodden, but at first still traceable path, along which you can also see some markings. Higher up, at the part where the trail transitions from the north-eastern slope to the south-eastern slope, the trail starts to disappear among the thorns. You either have to find passages through the thorns or, in a few sections, you have to make your way through the overgrowth. A little further on, you reach a slope where there was a fire a few years ago, and the path is easier to follow from here on. There is a slight cross-climb and then you reach the tarmac road leading to the Sveta Gora summit.
Walk along the road past a few stations of the cross, then, as the road turns sharp right, continue straight on to a footpath, which returns to the road higher up. Once back on the road, the path leads past the Pieta Chapel, restored in 2015, and then continues along a stepped path. Passing the last station of the Stations of the Cross, you quickly reach the cemetery, and from there, in a few 10 steps, to the top of Svete Gora, which offers a beautiful view that reaches all the way to the Julian Alps.

Discussion about the trail Grgar - Sveta Gora (via Križce)
Hribovka123419. 07. 2016
Te poti ne priporočam nikomur.
