Access to the starting point:
a) First drive to Kranjska Gora, then continue driving to Vršič. Shortly after Kranjska Gora ends, we cross the Pišnica River, and just a few 10 metres further on we turn right into a larger parking lot, where we park next to Lake Jasna.
b) We drive to Trenta and then over the Vršič Pass to Kranjska Gora. When you reach Lake Jasna, park in the large macadam parking lot by the lake (the parking lot is on the left side of the main road).
Path description:
From the parking lot, walk a few steps along the road in the route Kranjska Gora, then turn left after the small dam at the Pišnice gravel road. The path continues along a concrete embankment and then into the forest, through which you begin to climb. At the beginning, the path leads past several crossroads, and we follow the signs for Vitranc and Ciprnik. A little higher we reach a crossroads where the path to Mala Pišnica continues straight ahead (the path is damaged, impassable, dangerous and therefore closed), and we continue to the right and start to climb steeply in the bends. We climb relatively steeply for a while, then the trail turns right and crosses the slopes of Vratnik (Vratnik is part of the eastern ridge Vitranca). Continue up again in a few switchbacks, then reach a crossroads where you continue left, steeply upwards (if you continue straight ahead you reach the Kranj ski slopes, from where it is also possible to climb Vitranc). A very steep climb follows, then you reach the main ridge of Vitranca, where the trail turns right and continues along or gently along the ridge. The way ahead remains quite steep most of the time, but the steepness is reduced higher up. A little further along the ridge, the path retreats to the left and lays down, so that Mojčin dom is reached in a gentle to moderate ascent.
From Mojčina's home, near which there is the ruined Dom na Vitranc, continue straight ahead to a crossroads some 10 steps away, where the path from Kranjska Gora joins us from the right.
Go straight again in the direction of Ciprnika, where the path leads us past the dilapidated one-seater Vitranc II.
(The Vitranc II is the oldest single-seater in Slovenia and one of the oldest in the world, bearing the year 1958. A few years ago it was still safe to drive to Vitranc, but today it no longer has a certificate of use).
The route continues along the ridge of Vitranc with some short ascents and descents, and then we reach the place where the route from Planica joins from the right.
Continue straight ahead on a gradually steeper and steeper path, which takes you higher out of the forest into lane of dwarf pines. The steep path, along which there are a few fixed safety gear later on, which are not strictly necessary, then accompanies us all the way to the lookout Ciprnik.
From Ciprnik we have a beautiful view of the mountains above the valleys of the two Pišnics and of course an exceptional view of the nearby Jalovec and the other mountains above Tamar, and we continue towards Visoka peč, the peak visible on our side of Tamar, looking towards the Ponce ridge.
At the top, we find a path between dwarf pines, which, with the help of many cairns, leads us along the west side of Ciprnik, first moderately and then steeply downwards. The path quickly descends and then ascends to a viewpoint between Ciprnik and the High Furnace. From the head, from which we have a good view of our objective for the day, the descent is followed again, and then the path, which mostly follows the burnt dwarf pines, leads us to the last saddle below the summit. There is some moderate climbing, then the path stands upright and climbs very steeply for a few minutes. Higher up, the path lays down a little, then quickly leads to a scenic and relatively rarely visited summit.
Jasna - Mojčin dom na Vitranc 2:15, Mojčin dom na Vitranc - Ciprnik 45 minutes, Ciprnik - Visoka peč 30 minutes.
