Javorje - Stari vrh (via Koča na Starem vrhu)

Access to the starting point:
Take the Poljane nad Škofjo Loko, from where you continue towards Javorje from the semaphored junction. When Poljane ends, the road leads through Volča, and after this settlement the road starts to climb steeply. Go higher through Dolenčice, and then you will arrive in Javorje, where you will park in the parking lot near the Javorje branch primary school.

Path description:
From the parking lot, in front of which you will find some basic information about the Javorje meteorite (the Javorje meteorite is the 3rd meteorite found in Slovenia), continue past the primary school, and after the school, signs point you to the left. Follow the asphalt footpath uphill, and a little higher up, return to the asphalt road and follow it to the left. Following the road, which offers beautiful views, you will quickly reach a marked crossroads, from which you continue to the right in the direction of Škofja Loka, Stari vrh and St Brikcius (Blegoš, Žetina and the Church of the Assumption on the left).

Some 10 metres further on, the road splits again and we continue straight on or slightly right (sharp left Mladi vrh and Stari vrh over Podvrh), where we also leave the settlement of Murave a little further on. There is a cross-country climb along a scenic asphalt road, from which the road to Podvrh branches off higher to the left. Continue straight ahead and walk along the road until you reach the settlement Četena RavanXX, where the signs for the Church of St Brikcius direct you left onto a footpath. There is a short steep climb and you arrive at the Church of St. Brikcius.

At the church, you reach an asphalt road, which leads back down to the road leading to Stari vrh and Škofja Loka, which quickly leads to a marked crossroads at Preval, from where you continue left towards the Stari vrh family park and the Stari vrh guesthouse. Continue along the ascending asphalt road, which leads you along the edge of the ski slope, and higher up past the Stari vrh family park. Continue along the asphalt road, which soon branches off slightly to the left onto the circular paths "between the mountains, Valentine's and hunting trails". After a few minutes of cross-country climbing, you will reach the hut at Staré vrh.
From the hut, continue ahead, passing the upper station of the Stari vrh hexagonal railway on the left, where you follow the cart track, which crosses the ski slope and enters the forest. Through the forest, climb cart track, which makes some serpentines, and follow the signs at the crossroads. Higher up, cross the ski slope once more, then climb along the edge of the forest to a log cabin, where the trail returns to the forest past the games. A few more 10 steps and you will reach Stari vrh, and for a nice view it is worth continuing for about 10 minutes to the lookout point where there is a bench, a table and a registration box.
