Jelovec - Žavcarjev vrh

Access to the starting point:
a) Drive to Maribor, then continue to Dravograd. When you arrive in Jelovec, the route described above starts at the crossroads where the road to Srednje branches off to the right. You can park at the crossroads where the road to Srednje branches off to the right, or on the opposite side of the road in the asphalt parking lot by the bus station.
b) From Dravograd, drive towards Maribor and when you reach Jelovec, turn right and park in the parking lot next to the bus station.

Path description:
If you have parked on the south side of the road, first cross the main road carefully and then take the main road towards Srednje and the mountain path to Žavcarjev vrh. The way forward initially leads us along an asphalt road that climbs through the Jelovec settlement, where we follow the signs and markings for the Srednje settlement. A few serpentines follow, and then a beautiful view opens up in the direction of Maribor. Continue walking on the asphalt road and follow the signs at the crossroads. Higher up, we change to a macadam road and follow it to a pasture, which we pass on the lower side. After the pasture, there is a short descent, and you pass a few houses to reach a crossroads from which you continue straight on (downhill to the left along the Habid stream to reach the valley or the main road). There is some walking through the woods, and then you climb up through the hayfield past the Rušnik homestead.
Above the homestead, you reach the edge of the forest, and from the road take the cart track marked trail. There is a cross-country climb, and in a few minutes you reach a pasture, from where the view opens up again.
At this point, the path from Spodnji Slemen joins us from the left, and we continue along the pasture to a small hamlet, where we reach a macadam road. Continue uphill to the right and continue to climb cross-country to the right. Higher we leave the forest, the path from which we open a beautiful view of Pohorje turns sharply to the left and after a few 10 steps further walking leads us to the Cottage on Žavcarjevem vrh.
Go around the hut on the left, and at the chapel go straight into the forest on the path towards Žavcarjev vrh, where you walk along a well-trodden path through the forest. After a few minutes of ascent, take the slightly left-hand cart track, which quickly leads to the 915 m high summit.
