Access to the starting point:
We drive to Bohinjska Bistrica, then continue our drive to Lake Bohinj. When you reach the lake in Ribčev Laz, turn right over the bridge and drive past the Church of St. John the Baptist to the nearby crossroads, where the signs for the parking lot direct you to the left. From the crossroads, drive for about 300 m and then park in the parking lot near the lake. There is a charge for parking, and most of the nearby car parks also charge a fee. There is a free car park at the beginning of Ribčev Laz, which will take about 15 minutes longer.
Path description:
At the end of the parking lot, you will see signs for Ukanc, the path behind the lake, which direct you to the right onto a wide path that continues along Fužinski Bay. At first, the path offers beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding mountains, but when you leave the area of Fužinski Bay, the path turns into a forest, which occasionally thins out, so that you can still admire the lake from time to time. Further on, the path leads through several more torrents and a few streams, and then narrows to a footpath behind the former fish farm cart track. Walk along the northern shore of the lake for a while, then move away from the lake and cross the torrent of the mighty Govica. The path then returns to the lake and leads to a marked crossroads, from which you continue to the right towards the Savica waterfall (if you continue along the lake you will arrive at Ukanc).
From the crossroads, walk along the narrower path for a short distance, then join the cart track, which leads us past the Janko and Metka huts to a point where the path to the panorama Ukanc branches off to the right, and we continue straight ahead and after a few minutes of further walking we reach an asphalt road, which we follow to the right.
We continue along the asphalt road for a short distance, and then yellow signs for the Savica waterfall direct us slightly right onto a dirt path, which initially leads us past a few huts, and then into the forest. Through the forest we climb moderately, but when the path is higher, we arrive at a marked crossroads, where the path over Komarčo branches off to the right, and we continue straight along the gently sloping path towards the Cottage pri Savici. Crossing the bridge, we arrive at the Cottage pri Savici.
Description and pictures refer to the situation in 2017 (March).
