Access to the starting point:
Take the Bohinjska Bistrica, then continue in the direction of Bohinjsko jezero. From Bohinjsko jezero, follow the signs for the waterfall Savica, and park at the pay parking lot next to the Cottage pri Savici.
The price for a private car for up to 3 hours is EUR 3 and for more than 3 hours EUR 6 (September 2018).
Path description:
From the parking lot, follow the wide path towards the Savica, Dom na Komni and Koča pod Bogatinom waterfalls. At first, walk along the dirt road, but quickly turn slightly left off the road onto the marked path towards Komna (to the right of the Savica waterfall). Continue climbing along the old mulatier, which leads you through 48 marked serpentines. At the last marked serpentine you reach the valley Pekel, which you soon leave, and the path continues to climb through the forest. Higher up, the forest gradually begins to thin out, and a path joins us from the right, leading through Komarča and past the Black Lake.
Only a few 10 steps further on, the path splits again, and we take the left path in the direction of Dom na Komni (to the right Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih and also the Cottage under Bogatin, the latter is about a minute shorter than the one leading past Dom na Komni), which we reach after 5 minutes of further walking.
From Dom na Komni, continue right towards Hut pod Bogatin (straight ahead to the Vogel ski slope and mountain pasture Govnjač), where you will soon join up with the aforementioned trail. After about 10 minutes of easy walking, you will reach mountain pasture on the Kraje, where the hut Koča pod Bogatinom is located.
At mountain pasture, about a minute further from the hut, there is a marked crossroads, and we continue in the direction of Bogatinsko sedlo or Vratc (right Lanževica over Lepo Komno). On the other side of mountain pasture, where another path branches off to the left almost imperceptibly towards mountain pasture Govnjač, the path gradually begins to climb. Cross the area called Gracija and, while crossing it, bypass the lesser-known Srednji vrh on the south side. After crossing Srednji vrh, the path becomes slightly steeper and splits. You can continue along the moderately steep mulatier, which makes a longer serpentine, or slightly to the right, along a steeper mountain path. The two paths join at Bogatinsko sedlo, where the next marked crossroads is.
From the saddle, from where a fine view opens up in the direction of Krn, continue straight on in the direction of Dom pri Krnskih jezerih and Krn (Bogatin on the left, Lanževica on the right) and gradually start descending. We descend moderately for a while, then the path lays down and descends only gently. At the right-hand end of the hill, on the right-hand side, you will see the sign Krn, and when the hill on the right ends, the path to the nearby cavern branches off sharply to the right. Continue on the marked path here, leaving it some 10 paces further on, where there is usually a small cairn by the side of the path. From the marked path go right at the above-mentioned place, where you will soon see a fainter path, which leads you with the help of cairns towards an unmarked valley located between Velika Montura and kota 1919, situated slightly to the right of the Great Montura. Once the valley is reached, the track becomes steeper and climbs up to the saddle between the two peaks.
From the saddle, go right (left Velika Montura) and follow the track and the moguls to the corner 1919, and from there to the crossroads of unmarked paths below the summit of Predolino.
From the crossroads go slightly left (right to reach Lanževica), cross the slopes of Predolina and then approach the ridge connecting Predolina with Velika Baba. Continue slightly left and walk below the ridge, crossing the slopes occasionally covered with dwarf pines. The path through dwarf pines is traceable, but is quite overgrown in places. The trail leads to a ridge, and a little further on we reach a marked trail leading from Lepena towards Velika Baba.
Continue along the marked path and, after a climb of about 10 minutes, you will reach the summit.
Hut at Savica - Dom na Komni 2:30, Dom na Komni - Hut under Bogatin 0:15, Koča pod Bogatinom - Bogatinsko sedlo 1:15, Bogatinsko sedlo - Velika Baba 1:35.
The description refers to the situation in September 2018 and the images are from different periods.
