Kranj-Stražišče (Šrotenturn) - Šmarjetna gora (by cart track)

Access to the starting point:
From the old road Ljubljana - Kranj, in Kranj, turn towards Stražišče, then a little after the football field, at the roundabout, take the first exit towards Šmarjetna gora. From the roundabout, take Delavska cesta past Mercator for another 100 m and just opposite the ATM turn left (before the former TUŠ store) onto Trojarjeva street and after ~500 m you will reach the ecological island, located a few 10 metres in front of the Šrotenturn mansion or castle. Park in a suitable place on the roadside, behind the ecological island.

Path description:
From the starting point, continue straight ahead, then turn right at the castle onto the Na Šmarjetno gora road. Walk along the road for a few steps and then you will see a well-worn path leading across the meadow on your left. On the other side of the meadow, the path goes into the forest, through which it first climbs gently and then moderately. After a few minutes, we return to the road, which leads us past the house, then leads to a small crossroads by a bench, from which we have a nice view.
In front of the bench, take a sharp right onto the ascending cart track, which starts to climb crosswise to the right, then gradually starts to turn more and more to the left. At a higher level, the "East path" joins from the right, and then cart track turns slightly further to the left and lays down. After a short descent, leave Cart track, which passes Gradišče (592 m) on the right, and continue slightly to the right on a well-trodden path which continues through the forest. A little further on, at another crossroads, continue straight ahead, then continue for a short distance parallel to the asphalt road leading to the Šmarjetna gora summit. A little further on, take a few steps onto the road, then continue left up onto the dirt track, which continues to climb moderately. Higher up, the path leads out of the woods, where you pass the outbuildings on the lower side, and then soon reach the tarmac road, which, with fine views, leads up to the top of Šmarjetna gora, where the Church of St Margaret and the Bellevue Hotel are situated.
