Access to the starting point:
a) From the Tolmin - Kobarid road, a little before Idrski, the road to the village of Kamno branches off to the right. Follow the signs for Vrsno when you arrive in the village. From Vrsno, where the birthplace of Simon Gregorčič stands, continue along the narrow and steep road to the village of Krn, where the road splits into two parts. The road continues to the left towards mountain pasture Kuhinja, and we continue straight towards Mrzlemi vrh. We park above the last houses in the village, where there is a nice small parking lot with space for 4 to 5 cars.
b) We drive to Kobarid and then continue our drive to Drežnica. Just after the bridge over the Soča River, turn right in the direction of Ladra, Smast, Libušnje, Vrsno and Krn. When you reach the village of Krn, continue straight on (left mountain pasture Kuhinja), and we continue along the narrow road to a small, well-maintained parking lot, located above the last houses in the village.
Path description:
From the parking lot, continue along the road along which you parked, but after a few steps it splits into two parts. Continue straight ahead in the direction of Mrzlje vrh and follow the initially still wide cart track, which gradually turns into a dense forest. Higher up, the signs for Pretovč, Mrzli vrh and Puščavnikova cave direct us left onto a wide ascending path, which is quickly joined by an even less beaten path with mountain pasture Kuhinja. The track soon turns right and then climbs transversely through the forest. A little further on, you reach the Hermit's Cave, which is only a short 10-step walk from the waymarked trail.
Continue through the occasionally slightly more sparse forest, and a moderately steep path leads to a forest road, which you follow to the right. There is a short descent along the road to a marked crossroads on a small pass, where you continue right in the direction of Mrzlega vrh. The way forward leads past an information board, which quickly leads to a shepherd's hut at mountain pasture Pretovč.
From mountain pasture Pretovč, continue along the marked trail in the direction of Mrzlega vrh. From the shepherd's hut, the path climbs a grassy ridge, then turns left at a slightly higher altitude, where it crosses a short scraggy slope. Onwards, through low bushes and with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, you quickly climb up to the old Austrian cavern, where today there is a small memorial park, beautifully landscaped. If you have a torch, you can also see the inside of two caverns, one of which has a beautifully preserved altar.
From the memorial park, continue to the left and cross a strip of woodland and climb uphill. Once out of the woods, cross a short, slightly steeper grassy slope, then turn right and follow the path to the main ridge of Mrzli Peak, which takes a few minutes to reach the summit of the scenic peak.

Discussion about the trail Krn - Mrzli vrh above Planina Pretovč

Pot prehodil že večkrat tudi v trdi zimi. Kaverno in zgodbo o njenem stanovalcu je lepo opisal Tone Svetina v Ukani. Predlagam še podaljšek pri povratku na planino Pretovč preko planine Medrja (desno)ali pa Visočega vrha (cesta v levo mimo Lovska koče) na planino Sleme (poleti fantastična skuta) in prečenje na Leskovco ter šele potem nazaj na izhodišče v vasi Krn.

ja pot je res nezahtevna in blatna predvsem,ko sm šel gor na mrzli vrh,mrčesa kot hudiča ,ampak je lep vrh,se vidi,da so na njem potekali krvavi boji v začetku soške fronte,kamorkoli se po vrhu ozreš so sledi strelskih jarkov ,res je bila pestra borba za ta vrh.

Lepo nedeljo je bilo treba izkoristiti za pohod na Mrzli vrh. Start iz vasi Krn in slaba ura petindvajset do vrha omenjene vzpetine. Pot v super stanju. Ker pa to ni bilo dovolj, sem jo mahnil še do Javorce, ki je bila danes še celo odprta, zadnji dan letos. Nazaj po isti poti. Vse lepo in čudovito, le prevroče je bilo

Danes sva prehodila to pot. Sicer iz parkirnega na planini Kuhinja čez Leskovco na planino Sleme. OAd tam do planine Pretovč. Vmes sva si ogedala vodnjak še iz časa avstroogrske, ki je na poti ptroti Tolminu. In na vrh po levi poti mimo kapelice. Krožno po drugi strani na planino Pretovč in mimo puščavnikove jame na izhodišče. Kar 16 km je naneslo hoje.
