Lading - Großer Sauofen (Saualpe)

Access to the starting point:
From Dravograd, drive through the Vič border crossing to St. Andre. Follow the road to Wolfsberg, where signs for St. Michael point you to the left. From St. Michael, follow the road towards Lading. The ascending road leads you higher up to a less marked crossroads where you continue left. A relatively steep road then leads through the village of Lading to a large parking lot located slightly above the village.

Path description:
From the parking lot, follow cart track in the direction of Wolfsberger Hütte. After a few steps, leave the cart track and continue your ascent along a pleasant forest path, which crosses a forest road higher up and a wide cart track after it. Continue climbing steadily through the spruce forest, passing a grazing fence and passing a hunting observation post along the way. After a while, the well-marked path leads to a dirt road, which you follow to the right. The increasingly scenic route leads us across grassy slopes towards a hut visible at the top of the hill. After 20 minutes of walking along the road, we reach a parking lot (you can get here by car), where we see an information board on which the course of the route is clearly marked.
Continue along the road, which quickly leads to an unmarked one, where you continue straight ahead (slightly left). The road, which gets progressively worse and gradually steeper, leads you to the Wolfsberger Hütte hut, with increasingly beautiful views.
From the hut, continue slightly left in the direction of Speikkogl. Continue up the grassy slope towards the cross visible at the top of the undistinguished peak. Just a few metres before the cross, the trail turns left and starts to descend gently on a wide grassy slope. The path, which in the fog presents quite a problem, soon leads us to a wire fence, where there is a crossroads. Continue left and climb a slight incline along the fence to the nondescript Speikkogel.
Cross the fence again and continue right towards the summit, which has been in view for some time. After a short descent, there is a steep climb of a few metres to the summit.
