Lago Scin - Rifugio Faloria (Ferrata Sci Club 18)

Access to the starting point:
Via Border crossing Rateče or Predel to Trbiž / Tarvisio and then follow the motorway towards Udine to the Tolmezzo exit. From Tolmezzo, follow the road towards Ampezzo and the Passo della Mauria mountain pass. The road then descends and leads to a crossroads where you turn right towards Auronzo. Follow the signs for the Tre Croci Pass. From the pass, continue for another 8 km towards Cortina d'Ampezzo, then park in the parking lot near the Ristorante Lago Scin, which is on the right-hand side of the road.

Path description:
From the parking lot, cross the road and, at Lago Scin, you will see signs pointing left into the woods. The path turns slightly right at the start and although there are a lot of signs, you still need to pay attention as there are a lot of side paths and tracks that are better trodden than the marked path. After a short initial climb the path then leads to cart track where you continue to the right. Cart track then descends a little and leads to a motocross track, which is already a little overgrown. Continue along the footpath, which continues through the forest on slightly boggy terrain. Later, the path climbs slightly and leads us to a nondescript saddle where there are many markings on the trees.
There is a rather poorly visible crossroads. We leave the main path and head left where a small sign on the marker directs us (Ferrata S. C. 18). A slightly less well-trodden path then leads us out of the forest to dwarf pines. The path through dwarf pines then leads to a crossroads where the paths from the Rio Gere hut and from the Mandres hut, where there is an intermediate gondola station, join via path 206.
At the crossroads, continue straight ahead towards the Falorias, following the signs "Ferrata Sci Club 18". The trail then climbs quite steeply, mostly through dwarf pines until it enters the climbing part of the trail.
Before entering the climbing part of the route, be sure to equip yourself with a helmet and a self-protection kit.
From the very beginning, the climbing route climbs vertically and is only helped by a few scrambles (difficulty D). After the initial difficult part, the route turns to the right and is followed by a slightly easier traverse to the right. The route then turns to the left and climbs steeply for a while along the cable car (C). The difficulty eases slightly again, followed by a short vertical climb (D). The route then alternates for a while between difficulties B and C. It then turns slightly to the right and then climbs slightly to the right of the gondola lift. The climbing route is visible at all times from the gondola cableway to the Faloria hut. The route becomes more difficult again and climbs steeply along the ropeway (C and C/D), with a short ladder climb in between. The path continues slightly to the right and leads into a ravine. Here the path turns to the left and there is a less difficult traverse along a narrow ledge. The path then also descends slightly and leads us under the gondola lift again.
There follows a longer almost vertical climb aided by some scrambles (C/D). In the last part the climbing route then turns right and crosses a short gully and then climbs a narrow ridge (difficulty A to C). At the end, there is only a traverse (C/D) and the route leads to the gentle slopes in front of the hut.
At the end of the climbing route, continue along the sloping path towards the Faloria hut, which can already be seen in front of you.
The route described is extremely difficult and is only suitable for experienced mountaineers with sufficient strength in their arms. The climbing route is relatively new, having been built in 2009.
Descend the easier route number 212 towards the Mandres hut. Shortly before the hut, where there is a gondola stop, turn right onto route 210 towards the starting point at Lago Scin.
