Access to the starting point:
Leave the A1 motorway (Zagreb - Ploče) at the Maslenica exit and head towards Starigrad Paklenica. After Rovanjska, be careful because on a sharp left turn (a small bay), before Modric, turn right onto a narrow asphalt road that climbs quite steeply. After about 1. 5 km, you will come to a wider crossroads where you turn left onto a macadam road (follow the sign for Sv. Ivan). After 600 m, the path forks to the left and we continue straight ahead or right. The road is scenic and gradually climbs. With the exception of the cross-channels, which have been hollowed out by water, the macadam road is easily passable for all vehicles and you follow it for about 10 km to the next crossroads or starting point (Libinjska kosa 908 m). Here you could turn left but the macadam road ahead is much less passable for cars, so it is advisable to park at a suitable place at the crossroads, which will extend the journey for about 20 minutes.
Path description:
From Libinjska Kose, turn left towards Sv. Ivan. Walk along the macadam road/colovoz for about 20 minutes and descend to the Malo Libinje plateau. At the ruins and shepherd's shelter, join the mountain trail from Modric. A signpost and markings point to the right. On the grassy and rocky terrain we go around some sinkholes until we reach a larger flat pasture (Lički doci) where there are also the ruins of the chapel of St. Ivan. Just before the chapel there are also signposts where you turn left in the direction of Vlaški grad and Sv. brdo (on the right is the path to Sv. brdo via Dušice). After crossing the pasture, the path begins to climb gently up the slopes of Debele brdo through typical karst terrain of meadows and rocks. On the right you can also see a spring of drinking water. The trail turns slightly to the left all the time, climbing steeply in places until it reaches the Vlaški grad pass at 1280 m. Here is also the crossroads of the trail, to the left the Vlaški grad peak (20 min), straight ahead the Vlaški grad bivouac (currently under renovation and not in function - 6/2018), and we head right on the slope of Sijaset in the direction of Vaganski vrh and Sv. brda. Here the path becomes steeper and leads us in about half an hour to the next pass, where we turn right (left Vaganski vrh). The path then passes through meadows and dwarf pines and also descends slightly. Soon we arrive at the slope of Sv. brda where the path starts to climb again and leads us in the next half an hour to a scenic peak. Descend along the same path or via Dušice.
Given that the trail is always on the prismatic side and that there is almost no shade (exception Vlaški grad ), good sun protection is needed, especially in the summer months, or we can set off early enough.
Libinjska kosa - Malo libinje 0:20, Malo libinje - Vlaški grad 1:30, Vlaški grad - Sv. brdo 1:30.
