Lipa - Šmarna gora (by road)

Access to the starting point:
a) From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, take the Ljubljana - Šmartno exit and then continue to Tacno. In Tacno, just before the road crosses the Sava River via a bridge, turn slightly right in the direction of Pirnič. A little after Ljubljana ends, we arrive in Vikrče, and a little further on in Spodnje Pirniče, and we follow the road to the Lipa club, where we park in a larger parking lot for visitors to Šmarna gora (parking price is 1. 5 eur/h - December 2012).
b) From Šentvid we drive to Tacen, and then immediately after the bridge over the Sava River we turn left towards Pirničy. Just after Ljubljana ends, we arrive in Vikrče, a little further on in Spodnje Pirniče, and we follow the road to the Lipa club, where we park in the larger parking lot for visitors Šmarna gora (parking price is 1,5 eur/h - December 2012).
c) From Medvode, drive to Zgornje and then Spodnje Pirniče, and follow the road to Club Lipa, where you park in the larger parking lot for visitors of Šmarna gora (parking price is 1,5 eur/h - December 2012).

Path description:
From the parking lot, return to the road and continue towards Zavrh. Soon we arrive at a small crossroads where the road to the right turns off towards the birthplace of Jakob Aljaž, and we continue straight on towards Zavrh and Šmarna gora. We continue through the lane of the forest and then reach the first houses in Zavrh. Continue along the "main" road, which continues between the houses, and at the marked crossroads turn right in the direction of Šmarna gora. The asphalt ends at the "last" house and we continue on a steep road, where cars are not allowed (exceptions are residents). We continue on a road that climbs steeply through the forest. Higher up, a marked path joins us from the right across the Peski, and we continue along the road, which leads us on past the NOB monument and the plague marker. Higher up, the road turns slightly to the left and leads us out of the forest onto the slopes. With a view of the Šmarna gora and Kamnik Savinja Alps peak, we quickly reach the Žumberačka gora homestead, from which we take a short walk to the marked crossroads Na Sedlu.
Here, continue left along the road, which soon splits into two parts. You can continue your ascent along the road, in which case you will climb to the top past the wishing bell, or you can continue to the right along the marked footpath, which also leads you to the top of Šmarna Gora, past the Chapel of St. Sobota.
