Access to the starting point:
From the Split - Ploče motorway, take the Zagvozd exit towards the Sveti Ilija toll tunnel, which leads through the Biokovo mountain ridge to the Makarska Riviera. At the roundabout, shortly after exiting the tunnel, we head towards Makarska, where we park near the promenade. If you want to shorten your journey and save on parking costs, you can leave your car in the village of Makar, where there is a large parking lot under the village cemetery.
Path description:
From the promenade in Makarska, between the municipal building and the pier for larger ships, head towards St Mark's Church through a wide passage. Higher up the road is the town library, where the first markers greet us at the right corner of the stone fence and begin to mark our way. We follow them through the steep narrow streets of Makarska, where we cross the Adriatic highway over a bridge. Follow the marked path towards the village of Makar. We climb up steep asphalted serpentines that lead us to the village of Makar. There is a large parking lot. Look for the first signpost and follow the sign for Vošac. The path takes you past a newly built water reservoir, where it starts to climb up a rather wide zigzag path made of stones towards your destination. After a good hour's walk, the path leads into a pine forest where you can get water in case of emergency. The pine forest is becoming scarcer. Continue to a crossroads where you can head back towards the coastal tourist village of Tučepi or towards Veliki Brdo. Continue in the direction of Vošec, which is still a good hour's walk away. Higher up, at a remarkable viewpoint, the path turns under the southern walls of Vošec and, with the scent of Mediterranean fragrant plants, leads us to the Štrbina saddle. Here there is a beautiful viewpoint with an information board on the flora and fauna of the area. Continue along the sloping path, reaching the last crossroads in a few minutes. Turn left uphill and you will soon reach an extremely scenic peak, on which stands the mountain hut of Vošcu.
The mountain hut is run by SAK Extrem from Makarska and is mostly open during the summer months, but let's make sure before we go.
