Mali Lipovec (Šoićeva kuća) - Oštrc

Access to the starting point:
Croatia is reached via Border crossing Brežice / Bregan. Take the Bregana-Zagreb motorway to the Samobor exit. In the town, follow the signs for Rude and Jastrebarsko. When you see the right turn-off for Smerovišće, leave the main road and drive on to the village of Mali Lipovec (15 minutes) and the restaurant Šoićeva hiža, where you can park (if the parking lot is occupied, park further along the road, and otherwise it is advisable to park along the road, as the parking lot is reserved for the restaurant's guests).

Path description:
From the parking lot we return about 200 metres along the road back towards Samobor, where we see a small waterfall along the way, and we soon reach the place where we leave the asphalt road (the turnoff is well marked from the route of Samobor, but from our side the signpost is harder to see, and we have the additional help of a wooden cross by the road, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the turnoff).
The way forward is along the wide cart track, which used to serve as a delivery road for the mountain hut at Velikem dol. The cart track first climbs past a water reservoir and then leads us along the western slopes of Oštrc in a few serpentines of moderate ascent. During the ascent along the sometimes rather muddy path, the path also leads us past one of the cottages.
After a little more than half an hour's walk, the path leads us to a crossroads where we turn sharp right onto the Hoffmann trail (straight ahead to the Veliki dol mountain lodge for five minutes, and slightly right to reach the junction with the trail from the village of Rude). The path from here on becomes steep, and the substrate more difficult - rubble. Further on, the forest becomes more and more sparse, and higher up the path even leads us along a scenic grassy slope. When we reach the ridge, we join the path from the village of Rude.
From the crossroads, go further into the forest and after two minutes of further walking, you will reach the Željezničar lodge below Oštrcem. Just before the house, a steep path from the village of Braslovje joins us from the left.
You can have a snack or spend the night in the house. At night, the view of the illuminated Zagreb in the distance is exceptional.
You will see signs for the summit by the house, but it is about 10 minutes' climb up a steep and sometimes very rough path. When you reach the top you are still in the forest, so it is worth continuing a little further to the large cross, from where you get a limited view.
