Mengeš - Mengeška koča on Gobavica

Access to the starting point:
a) From Ljubljana: Take the ring road to the Tomačevo roundabout, where you turn towards Črnuče and Trzin. Take the four-lane road past Črnuče and Trzin. At the junction just before Depala vas or just before the road narrows to a dual carriageway, turn left towards Mengeš (direction sign). After passing through Trzin, you will reach Mengeš and the Mengeš bypass roundabout. Leave the roundabout at the exit for Mengeš. Drive through the settlement through two semaphore-controlled crossroads (at the first one Tuš, at the second one the fire station). Just before the main crossroads for Brnik turn left. Pass the kindergarten (fig. 1 - parking only allowed on weekends) or drive a little further to the parking lot on both sides just before the road turns uphill (fig. 2).
b) From Domžale (from the route of Štajerska AC exit): take Rodica (direction Kamnik) and there, just after the railway station, turn left at the junction by the Toyota centre, cross the railway line and drive another kilometre or two to Mengeš. From the local signpost, drive a couple of hundred metres to the first traffic light. On the right you will see the fire station. Turn right and follow the description from the route of Ljubljana.
c) From the route of Kamnik: Take the roundabout at Šmarca, and then go in the direction of Ljubljana or Mengeš. After a few hundred metres from the local sign for Mengeš, you will reach the semaphorised crossroads for Brnik (the Pavovec Inn is on the right). Go straight ahead and then turn right into the first street and continue as described from the direction of Ljubljana.
d) From direction Kranja (Gorenjska): leave Kranj in direction Šenčur and at the roundabout (which can also be reached from the motorway from the Ljubljana direction or from the Jesenik direction if you turn right at the junction after coming from the motorway and go under the motorway) turn for Šenčur. Go through Šenčur, Brnik, Lahovče, Mostec, always straight ahead or follow the signs for Mengeš. When you get to Mengeš, after a few hundred metres of driving, you will find yourself at a traffic lighted intersection where you turn right and then turn right again into the first street and continue as described from the direction of Ljubljana.

Path description:
From the second parking lot, follow the road uphill for a few dozen metres and then turn left onto the forest path that branches off the road (Fig. 3). The path is marked, although the markings are a little less visible at the beginning. After a left turn, it leads past a large rock (fig. 4) and then past a broken bench (fig. 5). From here, after about 10 minutes, you come to a clearing with a (whole) bench and a chapel. From this clearing we have a beautiful view of the Kamnik Alps with Kamnik saddle, Brana, Planjava,. . .
The way forward is NOT to continue on the obvious path past the bench and directly into the forest, but to follow the less visible path behind the chapel as marked in Figure 7. This path leads us after a few tens of metres back into the forest (Figure 9) where we again see the markings (Figure 10). Continue straight on and just before the summit you will come to a crossroads (fig. 12) where you will continue straight on again. After a few tens of metres you reach the top.
