Access to the starting point:
We drive to Mimice, a village between Omis and Makarska. Park at the church or somewhere along the Adriatic highway.
Path description:
Start at the church, preferably along the road a little further on, then up Kala Street. Before the memorial mosaic at Konoba Tsarska dvoreva, turn left, then up the maze of tiny streets and left - west. Higher up, you reach the upper street, the so-called old road, which connected the villages by the sea until the construction of the Adriatic Motorway in 1964. Follow it west to the transformer at the end of the village. Immediately after it, turn right uphill and after about 70 metres, at a sharp right turn, you will see a turn-off to the left. In summer, the lane leading from here can be overgrown in this part. In any case, you must leave the tarmac before the first house.
Pass a steel cable with steps, where there is a marker, and continue above the house. As time goes on, the path becomes wider and less overgrown. We are walking along a 300-year-old path that used to connect the village of Mimice along the coast with Svinišče and other villages along the Cetina inland. The path was wide enough and easy enough to carry livestock - donkeys, mules, etc. In this part, the trail passes through mostly abandoned olive groves and orchards. All the time we continue upwards to the west. The path has only a few bends or short serpentines. About halfway along, you pass an abandoned farm, mountain pasture. The path continues over rough rocky terrain to the summit. Below the ridge of the Omiška Dinara we reach a small chapel in the cliff, and then we have a few more steps to the summit of Kosmatica.
At the top of Kosmatica there is a memorial plaque with an inscription that reads something like this: "Imičkoj ženi i težaku, koji su poklonili života ovum kršu na domaku mora. To the three hundred promise 1672 - 1972'. It is left to your imagination what was too much or what was missing on the plaque that someone damaged it with two (probably) shots.
The return journey takes about an hour. In summer, most of the route is in the shade until about 8am. As the route is westwards most of the time, one can at least roughly imagine the situation by looking at the quarry on Hvar or the 3 concrete blocks in the sea, off the coast in Medici. Both pictures with these views are from the top of the hill.
