Access to the starting point:
Leave the Gorenjska motorway at exit Jesenice - West (Hrušica) and continue in the direction of Kranjska Gora. A little before Dovje, signs for Mojstrana, Krma, Kot and Vrata direct us left onto a slightly narrower road, which quickly leads to Mojstrana. Through Mojstrana we follow the signs for the alpine valley of Vrata, and we follow the road only as far as the sign marking the end of Mojstrana. Here we see a parking lot on the left, where we park.
Path description:
From the parking lot, first cross the road carefully, then climb up the initially unmarked path, which after just 2 minutes joins the marked path that branches off the road some 10 m lower down. Continue ascending along the marked path, which leads us through the forest, and then we arrive at the tractor logging trail, which we follow to the right, and after a few metres it leads us to a small crossroads, where the path to Grančišče branches off to the right. Continue straight ahead on the wide path, which quickly leads into a dense forest and turns slightly to the right. The path ahead becomes even slightly steeper and leads us past another turnoff for Grančišče to a wooded ridge, where it turns left and lays transiently.
The ascent continues along the increasingly steep path, which leads us for some time through the dense forest, and then moves a little more to the left, where it leads us to steep slopes, across which we are led by a wide and in some places also guarded by a fence mountain path. From the path, which is protected mainly for livestock, we start to get beautiful views of Jerebikovec, and higher up, Rjavina and Triglav. The steep path continues higher, crosses a few ravines, and then the steepness gradually eases. The path leads us to a pasture fence, behind which the area and the path are laid.
From the pasture fence, continue along the gently sloping path, which, in just over 10 minutes' further walking, leads to the pastoral tent at Vrtaška mountain pasture.
From the hut, turn right and follow mountain pasture straight up. The path continues through lane of a forest, then leads into a small, unmarked valley, where it continues to the left (straight along the unmarked path of the Old Hut). Continue through the forest, crossing to the left, and then arrive at a large grazing area where the path partially disappears. Follow the less visible path across to the other side of the "pasture" and then the signs lead you into the forest. Continue climbing steeply westwards for some time, then the path leads to an undistinguished ridge, where it turns right and begins to climb steeply. After a short climb, the marked path leaves the ridge and turns left, but we leave it at this point and continue our climb along the undistinguished ridge.
From the point where we leave the marked trail, the path becomes barely visible, but at least at first it is still easy to follow. As you climb along the barely visible path, take care that any tracks made by cattle do not take you too far to the right or left, in which case you could find yourself in the dwarf pines lane. If you follow the right path, which continues in roughly the same direction all the time, you will notice nice passages (some of them freshly sawn) between the dwarf pines, through which you will quickly reach a small unmarked crossroads.
At this crossroads, continue left (to the right of the Old Hut) and after some 10 steps, descend gently into a small valley. Once in the valley, the ascent continues along and alongside it, and if you pay attention, you may even see some old faded markings. Climbing up the valley, we are prevented from going higher by the dwarf pines, so we turn left at this point and climb up to a lookout ridge, which we walk along in a few 10 steps to reach the lookout peak.
