Novi Lazi - Livoldski vrh

Access to the starting point:
a) From Kočevje go towards the Croatian border, along the main road GII-106. After the village of Štalcerji turn right in the direction of Kočevska Reka, Novi Lazi. Novi Lazi is the next settlement, after the sign turn right into the village and after 30 metres park at the village hall on the right hand side, at the forest road turnoff.

b) From Ljubljana, drive in the direction Kočevje, after Dolenjska vasja turn right at the turn-off for Grčarice and Kočevsko Reka. Cross Grčarice, Gotenica and arrive in Kočevsko Rijeka. Turn left in the direction Kočevje, Novi Lazi is the next village after Kočevsko Rijeka. When you reach the village, turn left after the bus station into the village and after 30 metres park at the village hall on the right hand side, at the forest road turnoff.

Path description:
Start your journey along the forest road, which branches off from the local road through the village to the right in front of the village hall. First, descend gently, and on the right you will see the village pool (puddle). Then continue through the forest, keeping to the right at the first crossroads. Continue along the forest road, which after about 1. 5 km starts to climb up the hillside to the left. Follow the road to the top of the climb. When the road flattens out, there is a fork on the right logging trail.

Follow this logging trail straight on up the hill, keeping to the edge of a small valley that opens up on the right. Logging trail then crosses a small meadow and turns to the right, then lays down for 20 m before turning left again and uphill. Another 100 m or so and you are back on the forest road.

Cross this road, and on the other side rejoin the logging trail, which splits just after the road. You can continue either on the left or on the right logging trail. The left one ascends in a bend, the right one leads straight up and the two join again at the edge of a large clearing. There is always mud here, where you can track the wildlife that feeds here. Several trains lead from this junction. The left one climbs the edge of the clearing to the left. The right one runs more straight than not. We take the middle one, which climbs gently up the side of the hill, so that we have it on our left. After about 150m it lays down again slightly, then climbs again, and is joined again on the right by logging trail. We turn left, but from this junction we can also continue straight up the trackless path through the forest, as about 50m higher up is the forest road again, the so-called circular road that leads around Fridrihštejn.

When you reach the forest road, turn right and follow it round. The marked path from Štalcerje joins first from the right. From here on, the path is marked. Continue along the road until the trail to Livoldski vrh branches off to the right. Follow the marked trail first to a small saddle, then along a ridge to the left to the summit itself, with a sign-in box.

As there is no view from the top, I recommend that you go down the ridge for about 100 m to the lookout point from which you can see the whole Kočevje valley.
