Access to the starting point:
After crossing the Rateče or Predel border crossing, drive to Trbiz / Tarvisio, then continue along the old road to Udine. Follow this road to Cucco. Follow the main road to the turn-off for Ombrico. Here, leave the main road and turn left onto a narrower road, which initially goes slightly downhill. The road crosses a bridge over a wide channel of the river Fiuma Fella and then turns right to join a cycle path. Continue along the narrow road, which is also a cycle path. Follow this road until you reach a small bridge, after which you come to a crossroads. Turn left onto the ascending road, which leads you towards the motorway viaduct. Park in a suitable place on the roadside near the viaduct.
Path description:
Continue along the road to the other side of the viaduct where there is a crossroads. Go straight on to cart track where there is a sign prohibiting further traffic. Cart track starts to climb and in the initial part we have some nice views to the north where we can see some peaks over the Kanal valley. After a few bends, cart track leads us into the forest through which we then climb for quite some time in the keys. Higher up, cart track takes us to more easterly slopes where we can hear the Rio Granuda Grande deep below us. Here we also get occasional views towards the Two Spires. Cart track is then followed all the way to mountain pasture of Malga Granuda. When you reach mountain pasture, climb a little further and at the right-hand bend you will reach a crossroads where you will join the marked path.
Leave cart track and turn left onto the footpath towards Dvem špicam. From the crossroads, first walk for a short distance through lane deciduous forest and then the path turns to steeper slopes covered with dwarf pines and larch trees. The relatively steep path then leads to a marked crossroads.
We continue to the left towards the Two Spires (Due Pizzi), and a slightly more difficult path joins us from the right via the Forcella Cuel Tarond.
From the crossroads, the path becomes steeper, so we have to use our hands occasionally to help us as we climb. Later, the steepness eases and the path leads to the scree below the precipitous ridge of Monte Gosadon. Here the path turns left and crosses the aforementioned scree. On the other side of the scree, the path climbs steeply again and then crosses a short ravine where, due to the sand on the path, some caution is also needed. The slope then becomes more vegetated again with dwarf pines and then climbs towards the saddle between the peaks Cima Alta) and Monte Gosadon. Just below the saddle, the trail also leads to a crossroads.
Straight ahead the path leads towards the Two Spires, and we turn right onto a narrow path towards the summit of Monte Gosadon. The path from the crossroads to the summit is marked with red dots and first turns to the right and then passes through dwarf pines for a while. When you reach a small notch from which you get some views towards Viš and Jôf di Montasio, continue right steeply upwards. The climb is very steep at this part so some caution is needed. The steepness then eases a little and the path leads us along dwarf pines again. Higher up the path turns left and dwarf pines becomes less frequent along the way. Here the path leads to steeper slopes where again a little more caution is needed. After crossing the steep slope, the path from the Dunje valley joins us from the left.
At the crossroads, continue right and there is only a short climb up a scenic slope past some military ruins to the summit.
