Osp - Socerb Castle

Access to the starting point:
Leave the Ljubljana - Koper motorway at the Črni Kal exit, then drive for a short distance towards Črni Kal, and turn left at the pillars of the Črni Kal viaduct in the direction of the village of Osp. The road then leads through the village of Gabrovica pri Črnem Kalu, and after about 1 km you will arrive in the village of Osp, where the route described above starts in the middle of the village. A suitable place to park is about 500 m in front of the village.

Path description:
From where we parked, we walk to the centre of the village, where we see the first markings at the NOB memorial.
Continue to the right (left down Tinjan and the tourist farm and bivouac at Vovek) and start climbing between houses, following the signs at the crossroads. The marked path soon branches off to the right towards the climbing centre, and we continue to the nearby parish church of St Peter, which we pass on the right.
The village ends here and the road turns into cart track, which quickly leads to a marked crossroads.
From the crossroads, continue straight on (Kastelec on the right and Socerb Castle through Kastelec) and cart track gradually starts to descend crosswise. After a few minutes of gentle descent, we arrive in a small valley, where an unmarked path from the hamlet of Mlinarji joins us on the left, and we continue straight ahead, crossing the Zasedski brook a little further on, after which we go right at a crossroads towards Socerb and Slavnik. At the next crossroads, leave the valley and go slightly left on a wide and well-trodden path, which leads us past a hunting observation post to the slightly wider cart track. A little further on, we leave the forest and the path splits.
Continue straight on along the marked path (take the left-hand path to reach Itali), which becomes steeper and climbs through interesting scenery. When you get close to the national border and thus to the village of Prebenico / Prebeneg, keep right and start climbing cross-country. During the cross-climb, we occasionally get a nice view of Tinjan, Milje Bay and, higher up, the Črni Kal viaduct. Higher up, we reach an asphalt road, which we follow to the right (to the left Dolina and Boljunec, two settlements on the Italian side of the border), and after a few steps we reach a crossroads, where we take a sharp left in the direction of Socerb (straight ahead Kastelec).
Continue on the asphalt road, which leads to the village of Socerb, and we pass the NOB memorial and the chapel on the marked path, which returns to the road past a few houses. We continue along the road until we reach the last house nearby, and then climb the stairs to reach the Socerb Castle, which offers a beautiful view.
