Parádsásvár - Galyatető (Piros kereszt ut (pot rdeči križ))

Access to the starting point:
From Budapest, head east on the motorway towards Nyiregyhaza. After about 90 kilometres, leave the motorway at the Gyoengyoes/Matrafured exit. Continue into Gyoengyoes, then at a marked junction continue north towards Matrafuered. Continue along the road, which takes you round a number of bends to the Matrahaza saddle, from where you descend. At the end of the descent, at one sharp right-hand bend, you will see a refreshment room and a large parking lot at the beginning of the village of Paradsasvar. You can leave your vehicle here.

Path description:
From the parking lot at the beginning of Paradsasvar, head west and into the village. You will also see Sasvar Manor (Eagle Manor) on your left. Take the first street on the right (Rakoczy ut) and continue on through the village at a slight incline. At the next crossroads go straight ahead and you will come to a glassworks. Here, go on to a parallel street (Beke ut), where at the end you will finally leave the village and the asphalt and enter the forest. It is also possible to leave your vehicle here, but usually everything is occupied.
After entering the forest, follow the narrow forest path, which will turn into the wider cart track. The path soon leads to the interesting meadow of Gesztenyes Kor. The cart track then goes into the forest and starts to climb gently. In the forest you will see an artificial lake and after it you will cross the Csatorna stream. After crossing the stream, the path becomes very steep and continues through the forest. During the ascent we will also cross a short clearing. The trail continues along logging trail and is quite steep and the ground is more rocky and slippery. After a while, the path will lead us into lane of very sparse forest, with lane of scrub on the left. Further on, we reach the summit of Kis-Lipot, where we have an outstanding view to the north and west.
From Kis-Lipot, there is a slight descent, followed by a steeper climb through a sparse forest. The path, which is partly rocky and partly gravelly, then becomes overgrown with roots, so more caution is needed, especially on the descent. The steepness then gradually eases, and we will reach a crossroads where the blue path from Matrahaze joins us from the left. The Nagy-lipot lookout is less than a minute away on the left, with an exceptional view.
After the crossroads, our route, which has been heading south, turns west, where it finally comes to rest. Here we will cross an asphalt road and enter a sparse forest (there is also a small shelter after the road crossing). The path continues to climb gently along cart track, crossing a short clearing, after which it gradually joins the wider cart track.
When the wider cart track starts to climb slightly, you reach another clearing. After this clearing we are soon at the crossroads again, where the yellow trail from Gyöngyössolymos joins us. Another minute's walk and we are in the parking lot of the Galyatető ski resort. Here we have an exceptional view of the south-west and the Matra. Follow the asphalt west to the hotel, but only for about a minute, because then go left again (there is a building under construction here and it is possible that the route of travel may change in the future). After turning left, go up the stone steps, from where it is only two minutes to the top. The summit is in the forest and has no view, but at the time of writing this description a huge lookout tower was under construction and will open in summer 2015.
