Parking at botanical garden - Pasarićev Kuk (Premužičeva steza)

Access to the starting point:
Leave the motorway from Slovenia to Split at the Otočac exit. Follow the signs for Krasno and Severni Velebit. A winding road through Switzerland leads to Krasno, where the road from Senj joins. (Follow the Adriatic Highway past Rijeka to Senj, where you turn up to Krasno. ) In Krasno, continue towards the Severni Velebit National Park and the Zavižan Lodge. A mostly dirt road leads first to the entrance to the park, where the entrance fee is collected, and then to the crossroads by the chapel, where you can park in a large parking lot.
Above the parking lot is a small mountain lodge and the Zavižan meteorological station, a quarter of an hour away, and below it the botanical garden.

Path description:
From the parking lot, continue along the road, which is closed to traffic, almost horizontally at first. After a few minutes' walk, the Premužičova lane branches off to the right at a crossroads. The masterfully laid path climbs gently at first across the meadow and after a few minutes leads into the forest. It runs mostly horizontally, up to the rocky slopes, where it begins to climb gently up the scenic slope. Next, the path goes into the forest again and after a two-hour walk from the parking lot leads us to a crossroads where the path to the top of Gromovače branches off to the right. (15 minutes, marked, gentle climbing).
Continue along the Premužič path, which leads us after a few bends to the highest point of the route. There is a short descent to the next crossroads, where you continue to the right. The steep and slightly exposed slopes of Pasarič's Kuk are crossed, but the path is wide enough not to cause any problems. (Caution if the path is snow-covered or icy). The steepness of the slopes gradually eases and to the right in front of us we see the bivouac Rossijevo kolibo (Rossi's hut). The bivouac is a small stone hut, named after the Croatian botanist Ljudevit Rossi (1866-1934), in which we can spend the night, perhaps even an emergency overnight stay. The shelter contains a ladder and a wooden platform (without mattresses and blankets), some tools and a stove, sometimes also firewood.
To the right, above the hut, you can see a path that goes into the bush and then into a ravine, which is indented enough for a gentle climb to the 50 m higher summit. Caution is needed when jumping to the top platform and on the return. The view of the Rožanske Kuk is even better than from the hut, and you can also see Kvarner Bay, Novotnijev Kuk, Gromovača, Crikvenica and other rocky outcrops of North Velebit. The peak is named in honour of the president of the Croatian Mountaineering Association, writer, politician, editor and publicist Josip Pasarić.
