Access to the starting point:
From the Zagreb - Split motorway, take the Otočac exit. Follow the road towards the village of Krasno and Sjeverni Velebit. A rather winding road leads through the village of Švica to Krasno, where the road from Senj joins (access is also possible from this direction). In Krasno, continue towards the signs for the Sjeverni Velebit National Park and the Zavižan lodge. The road, which then becomes macadam, leads to the entrance to the park, where the entrance fee is collected. Continue along the road, which leads to a crossroads by the chapel, where you park in the parking lot.
Path description:
From the parking lot, continue towards the Zavižan lodge along the asphalted road to a small saddle between Vučjak and Velika Kosa, where a beautiful view of the sea opens up. Leave the road here and head left along the grassy slope towards the summit. After a few minutes of walking on the grassy slope, the path leads to the top of Velika Kosa.
From the top, follow the marked path down towards Balinovac. The path descends for some time and then leads us to a larger meadow beyond which the path leads us into a rockier world. Just below the summit, the path is stopped by a three-metre-high chimney, which is protected by a wedge. The crossing is not difficult, but caution is needed if you have a child with you. Next, it is just a few steps walk to the viewpoint.
From Balinovac, descend to the other side along the marked path, which descends quite steeply on an uncultivated slope. A little lower down, the path turns left into the forest and descends to a crossroads, where it continues to the right. After a few minutes, a signpost for Veliki Zavižan points right up the path. The path ahead climbs steeply through the forest and then the steepness eases and the path leads us to a flat grassy clearing. At the end of the clearing the path turns right and starts climbing again. Just below the top, the path leads us out of the forest onto slopes covered with dwarf pines. It is a five-minute climb to the top, up an increasingly scenic slope.
