Access to the starting point:
From the motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice, take the exit Lipce and turn right onto Jesenice (left at the traffic lights on Slovenski Javornik). In the centre of the town, follow the signs for Podmežaklo. When you pass through the underpass, turn right and immediately afterwards you will see the hockey hall on the left. Drive for another 350 m, when you will see a parking lot in front of the motorway underpass - the starting point of our route.
Path description:
From the parking lot, head towards the underpass, where you will come across the first signpost. As you go through it, you will see a track straight ahead, leading downhill from the road (marker on the tarmac). Follow it uphill for a few metres and turn right (west) under the power line. The path climbs only moderately at first and then more and more, and after a while leads to a crossroads, where we turn left (straight Mala Mežakla), uphill towards the summit. Soon we reach a forest road, which leads us through a double bend to a wall of a cart track, which on the right climbs steeply in a SE direction. Take it and follow it. The path through the woods ascends occasionally in a serpentine manner, at first slightly to the left, but higher up we are facing SW. The path then gradually climbs steeply in larger or smaller bends towards the summit on the left. When you come under the rocks on the left, you are close to the top of the plateau. Higher up, we come across a left fork of the marked trail, overlook it and continue straight ahead, and shortly afterwards, when the steepness eases, we arrive at Zakop - a small event space in the middle of the forest with a forest road nearby. Continue right along the road, which first turns left in an arc after a right-hand bend and then begins to descend. After a while, through a few bends, you reach the first junction of forest roads, where you continue left, and shortly afterwards you reach the next one, where you turn right, onto a side road. Walk along it for only 50 m, then you will see a track on the left and cairn, which is where you should head and leave the road. Continue along cart track, which descends through the forest. Soon, at a bend where the path turns sharp right, in a straight line, you will see cairn and logging trail, which you should follow, and continue downhill. The path then leads out of the woods to the small, cute mountain pasture gorge, which is crossed in a right-hand arc at the left-hand side of the station. (In the case of livestock in the pasture, mountain pasture can be bypassed on the right). Continue along the wider cart track, still descending through the forest, while ignoring the side logging trail. The path soon leads us out of the forest onto the vast grassy areas of mountain pasture Oblek and turns into an increasingly well-trodden track that leads past neat cottages, curves to the left, and finally ends on the main forest road leading to Mežakla from the route of Gorje. Turn right here, see part of the Julijci Mountains and follow the road westwards. When you come across a slightly larger building on the right-hand side of the road (a forestry hut), you are at (at) mountain pasture Ravne, which is on the left-hand side of the road. At the end of the wooden fence on the left, there is a track which leads across the meadow to the ruins of a shepherd's hut in the pasture below, a 5-minute walk south. If you continue straight ahead along the road, you will quickly reach a crossroads with a World War II memorial, and on your right you will see a beautifully restored forestry holiday home. Turn left here and follow the road through the woods and you will soon reach three holiday homes (two on the right and one on the left). The only one in use (the Home of the University of Ljubljana
