Path description:
From Podnanos, the birthplace of the Slovenian national anthem, we take the road towards the village of Orehovica. After a few minutes of walking, you arrive in the village where the signs for Kjecl and Pasji tail-Premrn direct you to the right, to the road which descends in 10 steps to the bridge over the Pasji tail stream. After the stream, we arrive at a marked crossroads, from which we continue along the right-hand path in the direction of the longer path to Kjecl, Boža Martra and Sveti Socerb (to the left Kjecl, a shorter steep path, and Sveti Socerb via Kjecl). The way ahead still leads us along the road, but at a nearby crossroads, we go right, and then on the right-hand side we go around a nearby house. The ascent follows the cart track, which climbs partly between vineyards and partly through the forest in a few serpentines, then passes into the forest and continues westwards, where it continues along and along a mostly wooded ridge. After a while, you reach an inconspicuous peak with a chapel, the bell of Our Lady of Martha and a pleasant bench.
A little further on, the path forks and we continue on the right path in the direction of St. Socerb (the left path leads to Kjecl, but it is also possible to continue from Kjecl to St. Socerb). The way ahead continues mainly through the forest, which in autumn is decorated with the colours of the rowan trees. At a higher altitude, we reach cart track, which leads from Podraga towards St. Socerb, and we follow it to the left, then leave it immediately as the signs for St. Socerb direct us to the right on the footpath. Just below the summit, we return to cart track, and follow it past the registration box to the church of St Servulus, from which we have a fine view over the Vipava valley and the surrounding mountains.
Description and pictures refer to the situation in 2016 (November).
