Podsreda - Podsreda castle (Grajska pot)

Access to the starting point:
Podsreda can be reached from Celje via Šentjur and Kozje, from Krško or Sevnica via Brestanica and Senovo, from Brežice via Bizeljsko and Bistrica ob Sotli, and if you come from Maribor via Podčetrtek, turn towards Kozje in Prelasko, where you will join the road from Šentjur.

You can park in the centre of Podsreda in the paved parking spaces in the middle of the square, or in the parking lot next to the church, or in the parking lot next to the fire station on the road to Kozje, which is a few minutes' walk from the centre of Podsrede.

Path description:
From the square in the centre of Podsreda, head south and cross the road from Brestanica. At the marked left turn-off for the Levstikov mill, continue straight on (i. e. do not go towards the mill), and a few metres after that turn right onto the marked forest path, which immediately begins to climb and leads almost to the top through the forest. For a while, the "Castle Trail" markings are still visible, but they soon disappear or are replaced by yellow and white markings. However, the path is obvious enough that you really can't get lost, except that where the forest road crosses it, you have to continue straight on. In addition, there are regular educational signs along the way, either to teach us about the attractions along the way or about the importance of the forest, and they can also serve as an indicator that we have not lost our way.

When the path peeks out of the forest below the summit and you finally see the castle, you can, if you wish, turn right at the marked turnoff to Florjan's Chapel, 5 minutes away, from where you can get probably the best view of the castle. From the chapel, you can go back to the turnoff, or you can continue a little further and turn left onto the road leading to the castle. If you stay on the Castle Route, continue past the lone house and you will soon come to the western wing of the castle, which is a little lower down and is now a hotel. Turn right here and follow the cobbled path right up to the castle entrance.
