Podsreda - Stara sveta gora (Way of the cross)

Access to the starting point:
Podsreda can be reached from Celje via Šentjur and Kozje, from Krško or Sevnica via Brestanica and Senovo, from Brežice via Bizeljsko and Bistrica ob Sotli, and from Maribor via Podčetrtek, turn right at Prelasko towards Kozje, where you will join the road from Šentjur.

The starting point of the route is a house on the road to Kozje, shared by the volunteer fire brigade and the local residents' home. There is a parking lot next to the house. It is a few minutes' walk from the centre of Podsreda, where it is also possible to park.

Path description:
From the parking lot at the starting point, follow the main road south. After a few metres, at the marked turn-off for Gradišče, turn left onto a side road that would take us a little way round to the top. This side road immediately turns right and starts to climb. First, you pass two yellow chapels that are not yet part of the Stations of the Cross. It officially begins a few metres further on with the first of the 13 chapels in pink and blue, marked with the Roman No I. Here you turn left onto a path which is formally unmarked, but has all the characteristics of a normal mountain path and requires the usual hiking equipment (especially shoes, optionally walking sticks). This path zigzags up a steep slope between 13 chapels marked with Roman numerals and climbs steadily throughout, the higher we go, the better the views of the Podsreda square, the castle and the Bistrica valley to the north of Podsreda. After passing by all 13 chapels, we reach the Chapel of Sts. From here, following the much flatter cart track, we reach the Church of the Sorrowful Mother of God and, following the meadow, the Chapel of St Anne just below the summit.
