Povlje - Grebenc (by cart track)

Access to the starting point:
a) From the motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice take the exit Brnik, and when you reach the road Mengeš - Kranj, turn left towards Kranj. Follow the main road towards Kranj to the first roundabout, from where you take the first exit to the right towards Šenčur. Continue on the main road through Šenčur, and when you reach the road Kranj - Zgornje Jezersko, turn right towards Jezersko. When you reach Preddvor, leave the main road and turn left towards the centre of the town, and from there follow the signs for Bašelj. A little beyond Bašelj, the road descends to the Milka stream and crosses it via a bridge. Here, the road first branches off to the right into the village of Babni, Vrt, and then, a good 100 m further on, into the village of Povlje. Continue on the ascending road towards Povlje, and park in a small parking lot above the village. At the starting point there is a small crossroads, several mountain direction signs and a larger information sign for the Trstenik walking and learning trail "the path under Storžič".
b) From the motorway Jesenice - Ljubljana take the exit Kranj West, then continue towards Golnik. When you arrive at Tenetiše, leave the main road towards Golnik and turn right towards Trstenika. Approximately 1km after Trstenik you will reach a small crossroads where you turn left towards Povlje. Continue on the ascending road towards Povlje, and park in a small parking lot above the village. At the starting point there is a small crossroads, several mountain direction signs and a larger information sign for the Trstenik walking and learning trail "the trail under Storžič".

Path description:
From the starting point, continue along the asphalt road, which turns right at a marked crossroads. When the spruce forest ends after a few metres on the left, just a few steps further on you will see the start of logging trail, which starts to climb up the initially steep slope. Cart track, which leads us along a slope affected by heavi hail in 2014, has a few smaller forks higher up, and we continue straight ahead or slightly to the right on all of them. Higher up, we reach the marked trail Povlje - mountain pasture Javornik, which we follow for only a short time, as we then continue right at the first fork in the tracks (even if we continue straight ahead, we return to the track higher up on the marked trail). Cart track then turns left and climbs steeply, over an initially scenic slope, from which a fine view of Tolsti vrh opens up. A little further on, at the point where the view towards Storžič opens up, the track curves even more to the left and then climbs steeply. During the crossing, we cross the marked path Povlje - mountain pasture Javornik, and we continue straight in the direction of Velika Poljane.
We continue to climb for some time, then first the Dolenčeva path from the village Povlje joins us from the left, and a minute or two further on, at the right-hand bend, the path from Gorič, Zaloga and also another path from Povelj.
Continue on the cart track, which runs along an indistinct ridge for a short distance, where it leads past "another refreshment room". A little further on, a marked path branches off from cart track, and we follow the clearly visible cart track through the forest for a few more minutes, and then, after crossing a grazing fence, for a few more minutes on the slightly more scenic grassy slope of Velika Poljane. When you step out of the forest, you can see the Velika Poljana Cottage in front of you, which is only a few minutes' climb away.
From the shepherd's hut, continue crosswise to the left (straight ahead Dom pod Storžičem, Mala Poljana and Storžič, sharp right mountain pasture Javornik), where in less than 5 minutes you will reach Koča na Grebencu, from where a fine view opens up further to the west to the south-westerly. Behind the hut, a faint path branches off to the right, crossing the fence and leading further towards the top of Grebenec. The way ahead is not well trodden, but it is relatively easy to follow, as most of the time it runs along or along the ridge. Higher up, the path crosses a few strips of forest, but keeps to the main ridge throughout, with the more difficult spots mostly to the right. During the ascent, the path climbs quite steeply a few times and occasionally crosses slopes prone to slipping, but in dry conditions the path does not pose a major danger as the harder parts can always be retreated to the right into the forest and then returned to the ridge. After about 15 minutes of ascent from Koča na Grebencu, you reach a fairly scenic summit. Description and figures refer to the situation in 2015 (January).
